William Arnott (biscuit Manufacturer)
William Arnott (6 December 182722 July 1901) was the Scottish founder of the Arnott's Biscuits Holdings (now Arnott's Biscuits Limited) in Australia. Early life William Arnott was born 6 December 1827, in Pathhead, Fife, Scotland, the eldest of eight children. His father was David Millie and his mother was Isobella Arnott. In October 1847, he and his brother David set out for Sydney, Australia on board the assisted-immigrants' ship ''Sir Edward Parry''; they reached Sydney some 135 days later, on 17 February 1848. Career Arnott's Biscuits After arriving in Australia, he first started a baking company in Morpeth, New South Wales, 22 miles north-west of Newcastle. He continued working as a baker, together with David, for three years. Arnott decided to try his luck gold mining in 1851, and left for the Turon River diggings alone. Pathhead
Pathhead ( sco, Paithheid) is an area of Kirkcaldy, in Fife, Scotland. Pathhead was an independent village before it was incorporated into the Royal burgh of Kirkcaldy. In Jan Blaeu's map of Scotland from the 17th century reference is made to the village of Peth-heed, present day Pathhead. With the Firth of Forth to the south, Kirkcaldy to the 'west', Dysart to the east, and Gallatown, Sinclairtown and Dunnikier to the north. According to Robert Brodie's ''Historical Sketches of Pathhead and Vicinity'', "Whatever time it may have begun to appear as a town, we know from good authority that in 1666 there were eighty houses in it. Jatz
Jatz is a brand of Malt, malted Australian cracker introduced by Arnott's Biscuits in 1952. The crackers are circular, about 5cm in diameter, lightly salted on one side and have a scalloped edge. It is typically eaten with cheese, dipping sauce, dips, cabanossi, Vegemite or by itself. It is available in original, cracked pepper, fat free and Clix varieties. Savoy Savoy is an extremely similar cracker initially introduced by the Brockhoff Biscuits in 1938. While they were originally competitors, with the merger of Brockhoff and Arnott's in 1963 the decision was made to keep both products on store shelves. Today the only difference between the two biscuits (besides branding) is the replacement of the full cream milk powder and malt in Jatz with golden syrup in Savoy. Sunday School
A Sunday school is an educational institution, usually (but not always) Christian in character. Other religions including Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism have also organised Sunday schools in their temples and mosques, particularly in the West. Tim Tam
Tim Tam is a brand of chocolate biscuit introduced by the Australian biscuit company Arnott's in 1964. It consists of two malted biscuits separated by a light hard chocolate cream filling and coated in a thin layer of textured chocolate. History The biscuit was created by Ian Norris and Alan Morrow. During 1958, they took a world trip looking for inspiration for new products. While in Britain, they found the Penguin biscuit and decided to try to "make a better one". Tim Tam went on to the market in 1964.
