William Ardagh Gardner Walter
William Ardagh Gardner Walter (13 August 1860 – 10 March 1940) was magistrate of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. William enjoyed his education at Taunton College School and the University of Oxford. At Oxford he shone at Rugby football, cycling and as a rower in the Eight for Exeter College Boat Club. In 1885 William migrated to Western Australia where initially he bought a farm at Tanjanerup near Nannup, which he sold a few years later in order to enter government service in 1891. He held several magistrate positions in the Western Australian goldfield in places like Murchison, Blackwood and Geraldton, eventually becoming first magistrate at Kalgoorlie in 1913. In March 1918 he fined the leader of the parliamentary opposition and future Western Australian Premier Philip Collier £25 for declarations 'likely to cause disaffection' during the conscription plebiscite. Wilton, Somerset
Taunton () is the county town of Somerset, England, with a 2011 population of 69,570. Its thousand-year history includes a 10th-century monastic foundation, Taunton Castle, which later became a priory. The Normans built a castle owned by the Bishops of Winchester. Parts of the inner ward house were turned into the Museum of Somerset and Somerset Military Museum. For the Second Cornish uprising of 1497, Perkin Warbeck brought an army of 6,000; most surrendered to Henry VII on 4 October 1497. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. John Walter (politician)
John Russell Walter (23 June 1863 – 27 June 1944) was an Australian farmer and politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1903 to 1904, representing the seat of Nelson. Walter was born in Bishop's Hull, Somerset, England. In February 1881, at 17 years of age, he entered into the University of Oxford, where, like his brother William, he competed in bicycle races as a member of the Oxford University Cycling Club. Weld Club
The Weld Club is a private male-only social club in Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 1871 as a gentlemen's club, it is named after Frederick Weld, the chronologically first patron of the club and the Governor of Western Australia at the time. Building , the club occupies a building designed by Talbot Hobbs and constructed in 1892 by the Bunning Brothers, the founders of Bunnings, for the organisation. It is situated at the corner of The Esplanade and Barrack Street, immediately across the street from Stirling Gardens. The Western Australian Turf Club (WATC), later known as Perth Racing, was established in late nineteenth century as an elite social institution and administrator of the Western Australian horse racing industry. They manage two racecourses in Perth, Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park Racecourse. Some aspects of the clubs functions were taken over by Racing and Wagering Western Australia when it was created in 2003.
