William Anthony (artist)
William Anthony (September 25, 1934 – December 24, 2022) was an American painter and illustrator. He was born in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey New Jersey is a state in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by the state of New York; on the east, southeast, and south by the Atlantic Ocean; on the west by the Delaware ... in 1934 and attended Yale University, getting his undergraduate degree in history and serving as a senior editor for campus humor magazine ''The Yale Record''. While attending Yale, he took a series of art classes, including one taught by Josef Albers. In 1958 and 1961 he attended the Art Students League of New York. After graduating from Yale he went to California, where his family had moved and attended the San Francisco Art Institute. Archives Of American Art
The Archives of American Art is the largest collection of primary resources documenting the history of the visual arts in the United States. More than 20 million items of original material are housed in the Archives' research centers in Washington, D.C. and New York City. As a research center within the Smithsonian Institution, the Archives houses materials related to a variety of American visual art and artists. All regions of the country and numerous eras and art movements are represented. Among the significant artists represented in its collection are Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Marcel Breuer, Rockwell Kent, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, John Trumbull, and Alexander Calder.
