William Aitken (politician)
Sir William Traven Aitken, (10 June 1903 – 19 January 1964) was a Canadian-British journalist and politician who was an MP in the UK parliament for 14 years. He was a nephew of Lord Beaverbrook. Early life and family Aitken was born on 10 June 1903, the son of Joseph Mauns Aitken of Toronto. William Aitken (footballer)
William John Aitken (2 February 1894 – 9 August 1973) was a Scottish football player and manager. A forward, he was known for his trait of bouncing the ball on his head whilst running along the touchline, and was normally known as Willie or Billy. He began his career at Kirkintilloch, before joining Rangers via Queen's Park in 1918. He signed with Port Vale in 1919, before he was sold on to Newcastle United for £2,500 in May 1920. He spent four seasons at Tyneside, before joining Preston North End in 1924. He spent two years with the "Lambs", and after spells at Chorley, Norwich City, and Bideford Town, he was appointed as head coach at Italian club Juventus in 1928. He moved on to France the following year to play for AS Cannes. He played in the 1932 Coupe de France final victory, and was later appointed as club manager. William Alexander Aitken
William Alexander Aitken, also known as William Alexander Aitkin (–1851), was a fur trader with the Ojibwe in the Upper Mississippi region. He was at first affiliated with the American Fur Company, founded by John Jacob Astor, but after 1838 he set up as an independent trader, based in St. Louis, Missouri. Biography Aitken was a native of Edinburgh, Scotland. He came to the Upper Mississippi River, Mississippi region around 1802 after immigrating to Canada. There he was employed by John Drew (trader), John Drew, a trader in the Michilimackinac, Mackinac area. Aitken worked as a clerk in John Jacob Astor's American Fur Company; he was assigned to William Morrison (trader), William Morrison's Fond du Lac (Duluth), Fond du Lac Department. Aubrey Aitken
William Aubrey Aitken (known as Aubrey; 2 August 19111 June 1985) was the second Bishop of Lynn from 1973 until 1985. Born into a family of Norfolk priests (his father, Robert, was Vicar of Great Yarmouth, whose own father, Hay, was a Canon of Norwich) and educated at Norwich Grammar School and Trinity College, Oxford (he gained the degree of Oxford Master of Arts ). He was ordained a deacon on 23 December 1934 and a priest on 22 December 1935, both times by Harold Bilbrough, Bishop of Newcastle, in Newcastle Cathedral. and in 1937, he married Margaret Cunningham; they had three sons and two daughters. William Aitken (pathologist)
Sir William Aitken (1825–1892) was a Scottish pathologist. Aitken, the eldest son of William Aitken, a medical practitioner of Dundee, was born there on 23 April 1825. Having received his general education at the High School, he was apprenticed to his father, and at the same time attended the practice of the Dundee Royal Infirmary. In 1842, he matriculated at the University of Edinburgh, and in 1848 graduated M.D., obtaining a gold medal for his thesis 'On Inflammatory Effusions into the Substance of the Lungs as modified by Contagious Fevers'. In October of the same year, he was appointed demonstrator of anatomy at the University of Glasgow, under Allen Thomson, and also pathologist to the royal infirmary, which posts he held up to 1855. William Mackie Aitken (born 15 April 1947) is a Scottish Conservative politician. He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow from 1999 to 2011, Scottish Conservative Spokesperson for Justice, and Convener of the Justice Committee from 2007 to 2011. Background, education and career Aitken was born in Glasgow, and educated at Allan Glen's School in the city and Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University). He worked in the Financial Services/Insurance Industry for 34 years (1965–1999). He is a supporter of Partick Thistle Football Club. His interests include sports, reading and foreign travel. Following involvement in youth politics he was elected a Glasgow City Councillor in 1977 for the Anniesland ward, subsequently becoming the Convener of the Licensing Committee and Vice Convener of the Personnel Committee.
