William Abney (actor)
William Edward Charles Wootton Abney (7 January 1921 – 9 August 1997) played Reverend Copley on ''Coronation Street'' in 1977, and Jim Lorimer in 1980. His other television credits include ''The Adventures of William Tell'', ''Crossroads'', ''Special Branch'', ''Play for Today'', '' All Creatures Great and Small'', '' Robin's Nest'' and ''The Return of Sherlock Holmes''. The son of Henry Charles Wootton Abney, of the landed gentry family of Abney of Measham Hall, Derbyshire, by his wife, Janet Bentley Littlejohn, Abney was educated at Cranleigh School and the Central School of Speech and Drama. His stage work included West End roles in the original production of '' Carrington V.C.'' in 1953, and (as Giles Ralston) in Agatha Christie's ''The Mousetrap'' in 1956-1959. ''Martin Luther'' is a 1953 American–West German film biography of Martin Luther. It was directed by Irving Pichel, (who also plays a supporting role), and stars Niall MacGinnis as Luther. It was produced by Louis de Rochemont and RD-DR Corporation in collaboration with Lutheran Church Productions and Luther-Film-G.M.B.H. The National Board of Review Awards 1953, National Board of Review named the film the fourth best of 1953. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, Oscars, for Academy Award for Best Cinematography, Best Cinematography (Black-and-White) (Joseph C. ''Sunday Night Theatre'' was a long-running series of televised live television plays screened by BBC Television from early 1950 until 1959. The productions for the first five years or so of the run were re-staged live the following Thursday, partly because of technical limitations in this era, and the theatrical basis of early television drama. ''Curse of the Pink Panther'' is a 1983 comedy film and a continuation of ''The Pink Panther'' series of films created by Blake Edwards in the early 1960s. The film was one of two produced concurrently following the death of the series' star Peter Sellers.
