William A. Reynolds
William Ayres Reynolds (December 30, 1874 – August 10, 1928) was an American football player and coach of football and baseball. He played scrub football at Princeton University, serving as team captain in 1894, and served as the head football coach at Rutgers University (1895), Sewanee: The University of the South (1895), the University of Cincinnati (1896), the University of North Carolina (1897–1900), and the University of Georgia (1901–1902), compiling a career record of 38–21–9. Reynolds was also the head baseball coach at North Carolina (1898–1899) and Georgia (1902–1903), tallying a career mark of 24–14–2. At North Carolina, as a football coach, he coached the Tar Heels to an undefeated season in 1898 (9–0) and had an overall record of 27–7–4 during his four seasons. Oxford, Pennsylvania
Oxford is a borough in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. Oxford is the closest town to Lincoln University. The population was 5,733 at the 2020 census. History The borough was once called Oxford Crossing and Oxford Village during the 1700s. In 1805, the Oxford post office was established. In 1833, Oxford was officially incorporated as a borough. Its first burgess (now called the mayor) was Thomas Alexander, who operated a general store thought to be the oldest building in Oxford. The northern half of Oxford was owned by the Dickey family in the 19th century. 1895 Rutgers Queensmen Football Team
The 1895 Rutgers Queensmen football team represented Rutgers University as an independent during the 1895 college football season. William Ayres Reynolds coached the first two games, going 0-2. When Reynolds left to coach the Sewanee team, Rutgers completed their season under head coach H. W. Ambruster, the Queensmen compiling an overall 3–4 record and were outscored by their opponents, 131 to 98. The team captain was William A. Ranney. 1895 College Football Season
The 1895 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1895–96 academic year. The 1895 Penn Quakers football team, led by head coach George Washington Woodruff, compiled a perfect 14–0 record and is recognized as the 1895 national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, and National Championship Foundation. One selector, Parke H. Davis, recognized both Penn and Yale as co-national champions. Yale compiled a 13–0–2 record. In the Midwest, Michigan led the way with an 8–1 record, the only loss coming in a road game against Harvard.
