William A. Ellis
William Allen Ellis, Sr., (April 23, 1828November 21, 1900) was an American businessman, Republican politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing the 1st State Senate district—northeast Wisconsin—during the 1881 and 1882 sessions. Biography Ellis was born in Topsham, Maine, and moved to Peshtigo, Wisconsin, in 1857 to work for the Peshtigo Lumber Company. He later worked as a superintendent for the company. Wisconsin Senate, District 1
The 1st Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in northeast Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Door and Kewaunee counties, as well as most of northern Manitowoc County, much of south and east Brown County, northern Calumet County, and part of southwest Outagamie County. It includes the city of Two Rivers, most of the city of De Pere, and parts of the cities of Appleton and Menasha. The district does not contain, but is adjacent to, the Green Bay area. John C. Karel Sr. (or Carel)The 1879 and 1881 Wisconsin Blue Books spell his last name "Carel", but all later coverage, including his gravestone and his son's gubernatorial campaign, spell it "Karel". George Grimmer
George Grimmer (February 28, 1827March 16, 1907) was a Canadian American immigrant, lumberman, politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He served in the Wisconsin State Senate for four years, representing the 1st State Senate district—northeastern Wisconsin. Biography Grimmer was born on February 28, 1827, in Saint David Parish, New Brunswick, then part of British North America. He emigrated to the United States, and, in 1850, he moved to Shawano, Wisconsin, to work as a lumberman. Three years later, he moved to Kewaunee, Wisconsin, where he remained for the rest of his life. In Kewaunee, he served as chairman of the town board for several years, and was chairman of the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors.
