Willem Boerdam
Willem Boerdam (2 November 1883 – 9 December 1966) was a Dutch footballer. He was part of the Netherlands national football team, playing 2 matches. Career An agile and stocky technician, he was nicknamed ''Willem de Springer'' (Willem the Jumper) because of his athletic footballing style. He played the majority of his career for Sparta. He played his first match on 25 April 1909. He was part of the Dutch team at the 1908 Summer Olympics, but because he did not play he didn't get a bronze medal. Vlaardingen () is a city in South Holland in the Netherlands. It is located on the north bank of the Nieuwe Maas river at the confluence with the Oude Maas. The municipality administers an area of , of which is land, with residents in . Geography The city is divided into a northern part (locally known as the "Holy") and a southern part by the A20 motorway. On the east the city is separated from Schiedam by the A4 motorway. Sparta Rotterdam () is a Dutch professional football club based in Rotterdam. Established on 1 April 1888, Sparta Rotterdam is the oldest professional football team in the Netherlands. The 1908 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the IV Olympiad and also known as London 1908) were an international multi-sport event held in London, England, United Kingdom, from 27 April to 31 October 1908. The 1908 Games were originally scheduled to be held in Rome, but were relocated on financial grounds following the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, which claimed over 100 lives; Rome eventually hosted the Games in 1960.
