Willard Gallery
The Willard Gallery was a contemporary art gallery operating in New York City from 1940 until 1987. It was founded by Marian Willard Johnson. History In 1936, Marian Guthrie Willard had founded the East River Gallery as an art rental gallery at 358 East 57 St. As Willard became "more and more interested in the development of individual artists" the idea of renting became less and less appealing and she officially closed the East River Gallery in 1938 to re-evaluate her direction. Willard spent 1938–1940 in association with J.B. Neumann who was turning to selling old masters to supplement the sale of contemporary art. In 1940, she found a small space next door to Curt Valentin's Bucholtz Gallery at 32 East 57th St. where she opened Willard Gallery.Willard Johnson, Marian. Llyn Foulkes
Llyn Foulkes (born 17 November 1934, in Yakima, Washington) is an American artist living and working in Los Angeles. As a student at Chouinard Art Institute (now CalArts), Foulkes began exhibiting with the Ferus Gallery, Los Angeles in 1959. He held his first one-man exhibition at Ferus in 1961. Other early solo exhibitions included the Pasadena Art Museum (1962) and the Oakland Art Museum (1964). He also showed with a new gallery across the street from Ferus (exhibiting Jess, Georgia O'Keeffe, Irving Petlin, and others) called the Rolf Nelson Gallery (1963, 64). In 1967, Foulkes was awarded the Prize for Painting at the Paris Biennale, Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris followed by a European exhibition there. Kenneth Price
Kenneth Price (February 16, 1935February 24, 2012) was an American artist who predominantly created ceramic sculpture. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and Otis Art Institute (now Otis College of Art and Design) in Los Angeles, before receiving his BFA degree from the University of Southern California in 1956. He continued his studies at Chouinard Art Institute in 1957 and received an MFA degree from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1959. Kenneth Price studied ceramics with Peter Voulkos at Otis and was awarded a Tamarind Fellowship. He is best known for his abstract shapes constructed from fired clay. Typically, they are not glazed, but intricately painted with multiple layers of bright acrylic paint and then sanded down to reveal the colors beneath. Clayton Sumner Price
Clayton Sumner "C. S." Price (1874 – 1950) was an American expressionist painter from Oregon. Biography Price was born on May 11, 1874 near Bedford, Iowa, and raised on farms and ranches there and in Wyoming and Alberta, Canada. In 1905, a local rancher loaned Price money so he could attend the St. Louis School of Fine Arts. An online facsimile of the entire text of Vol. 1 is posted on the Traditional Fine Arts Organization website (http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/10aa/10aa557.htm ). Price attended the school during the 1905–1906 academic year; it would be his only formal training. Philip McCracken
Philip "Phil" McCracken (November 14, 1928 – June 6, 2021) was an American visual artist, who worked mainly in sculpture. Born in Bellingham, Washington, he graduated from the University of Washington in 1953, having interrupted his studies to serve as an army reservist for the Korean War. He then studied for a time under Henry Moore in England. He lived and made art on Guemes Island from 1955 to the end of his life in 2021. His work contains much nature imagery, is generally representational, and displays a strong focus on visual form. His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Northwest Art. Robert Lawrance Lobe
Robert Lawrance Lobe (born 1945) is an American sculptor. He was born in Detroit and grew up in Cleveland. He received a B.A. from Oberlin College in 1967 and then pursued post-graduate work at Hunter College. ''Harmony Ridge #29'', in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art, is typical of the depictions of rocks and trees in heat-treated, hammered aluminum for which he is best known. He employs an adaptation of repoussé and chasing, in which he encases trees and rocks in sheets of aluminum. Employing hand-held and pneumatic hammers, he beats the aluminum until it assumes the shape of the wood or rock. John Franklin Koenig
John-Franklin Koenig (1924 — 2008) was an American artist who, though born and raised in Seattle, Washington (state), Washington, and sometimes associated with the 'Northwest School (art), Northwest School' of artists, spent most of his career in France.
