Bill Callahan (musician)
Bill Callahan (born June 3, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who has also recorded and performed under the band name Smog. Callahan began working in the lo-fi genre, with home-made tape-albums recorded on four-track tape recorders. Later he began releasing albums with the label Drag City, to which he remains signed today. His work, in addition to lo-fi music, has encompassed apocalyptic folk and gothic country. Career Callahan started out as a highly experimental artist, using substandard instruments and recording equipment. His early songs lacked melodic structure and were clumsily played on poorly tuned guitars, resulting in the dissonant sounds on his self-released cassettes and debut album '' Sewn to the Sky''. Much of his early output was instrumental, a stark contrast to the lyrical focus of his later work. His use of lo-fi techniques was not primarily an aesthetic preference, but stemmed from his lack of resources to make and record music. Once he sig ...

I Made A Place
''I Made a Place'' is a 2019 album by Bonnie "Prince" Billy, the stage name of American indie folk musician Will Oldham. It was released to positive critical reception. Recording The songs that make up ''I Made a Place'' were recorded by Oldham with producer Mark Nevers; the duo originally considered making a Ramones cover album but after the death of David Berman, they went back to original songs. These compositions were recorded with no intention on releasing an album. Critical reception The editorial staff of AllMusic gave the album 3.5 out of five stars, with reviewer Fred Thomas concluding that it is made up of solid songwriting but stating, "While no less emotionally dense than that or any of Oldham's work, I Made a Place feels less intense, and even fun by comparison". Kitty Empire of ''The Observer'' gave it four out of five stars, for the moving quality of Oldham's lyrics and in particular his investigation of solitude. Sal Sodomsky of ''Pitchfork'' awarded the album 7.1 ...

The Mekons
The Mekons are a British band formed in the late 1970s as an art collective. They are one of the longest-running and most prolific of the first-wave British punk rock bands. The band's style has evolved over time to incorporate aspects of country music, folk music, alternative rock and occasional experiments with dub. They are known for their raucous live shows. History The band was formed in 1976 by a group of University of Leeds art students: Jon Langford, Kevin Lycett, Mark White, Andy Corrigan and Tom Greenhalgh—the Gang of Four and Delta 5 formed from the same group of students. They took the band's name from the Mekon, an evil, super-intelligent Venusian featured in the British 1950s–1960s comic '' Dan Dare'' (printed in the ''Eagle''). The Mekons were described as more chaotic version of the Gang of Four; Lycett stated the band operated on the principle that "anybody could do it ... anybody could get up and join in and instruments could be swapped around; th ...
