Will Bayley
William John Bayley (born 17 January 1988) is a British professional Paralympic table tennis player, ranked world number 1. He is the 2016 Summer Paralympics Games gold medallist and the 2014 World Champion. From September 2019 Bayley participated in the seventeenth series of '' Strictly Come Dancing'', paired with professional dancer Janette Manrara. Personal life Bayley was born on 17 January 1988 in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. He was born with arthrogryposis which affects all four of his limbs. At the age of seven he was diagnosed with cancer. During his recovery he began playing table tennis after his grandmother bought him his first table. Career At the age of 12 he joined the Byng Hall Table Tennis Club in Tunbridge Wells, and went on to represent Kent's able bodied men's team. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. Arthrogryposis
Arthrogryposis (AMC) describes congenital joint contracture in two or more areas of the body. It derives its name from Greek, literally meaning "curving of joints" (', "joint"; ', late Latin form of late Greek ', "hooking"). Children born with one or more joint contractures have abnormal fibrosis of the muscle tissue causing muscle shortening, and therefore are unable to perform active extension and flexion in the affected joint or joints. AMC has been divided into three groups: amyoplasia, distal arthrogryposis, and syndromic. Amyoplasia is characterized by severe joint contractures and muscle weakness. Yan Shuo
Yan Shuo (, born 26 July 1995) is a Chinese para table tennis player. Career He won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the men's C7 event. In the delayed Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympics he improved on his previous bronze by winning gold in the same event, defeating the defending champion Will Bayley as well as taking gold in the team event for the same category, against the same opponent and his partner. David Wetherill (born 22 December 1989) is a British international table tennis player who has the rare bone development disorder Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia. Wetherill's hometown is Torpoint, Cornwall Wetherill completed his bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of Sheffield in 2011. Paul Karabardak
Paul Arif Karabardak (born 3 October 1985) is a Welsh para table tennis player who has competed in three Summer Paralympics. Biography Karabardak was a keen footballer when he was a child but he suffered from a massive stroke aged 10, he played table tennis after his stroke in a local youth club. Sporting career Aged 16 in 2001, Karabardak was chosen to participate in the GB Para Table Tennis Team in Frankfurt for the European Championships. He won his first national medal along with David Hope, a bronze in the teams' event. He continued to win two silver medals and two bronze medals in the team events. Table tennis at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the Peking University Gymnasium from September 7 to September 15. Classification Players are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows players to compete against others with a similar level of function. Table tennis has ten numbered classes, with lower numbers corresponding to more severe disability.
