Worthing United Football Club is a football club based in Worthing, England. Established in 1988 by a merger of Wigmore Athletic and Southdown, they are currently members of the and play at the Robert Albon Memorial Ground. History Wigmore Athletic joined the Southern Combination Football League, Sussex County League in 1952 as founder members of Division Two. They won the division at the 1952–53 Sussex County Football League, first attempt, earning promotion to Division One. The club finished second-from-bottom of Division One for three consecutive seasons between 1954–55 Sussex County Football League, 1954–55 and 1956–57 Sussex County Football League, 1956–57, but avoided relegation. Worthing () is a seaside town in West Sussex, England, at the foot of the South Downs, west of Brighton, and east of Chichester. Sport In Worthing
A wide variety of sport in Worthing has been played, which has a long and interesting history. Current sports Worthing's location between the sea and the downs makes the area a popular location for outdoor recreation. The town's five miles of coastline and its wide open water makes it a popular location for watersports, especially catamaran racing, windsurfing and kitesurfing and the town has held a regatta for rowing since at least 1859. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The 2006–07 FA Cup qualifying rounds opened the 126th season of competition in England for 'The Football Association Challenge Cup' ( FA Cup), the world's oldest association football single knockout competition. A total of 687 clubs were accepted for the competition, up 13 from the previous season’s 674. The large number of clubs entering the tournament from lower down ( Levels 5 through 11) in the English football pyramid meant that the competition started with six rounds of preliminary (2) and qualifying (4) knockouts for these non-League teams. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Loxwood is a small village and civil parish with several outlying settlements, in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England, within the Low Weald. The Wey and Arun Canal passes to the East and South of the village.
