Police General Drs. Widodo Budidarmo (1 September 1927 – 5 May 2017) was the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) from 1974 to 1978, being the first non-Muslim National Police Chief. Profile The eldest child of a sugar factory cashier, Widodo, was born in Kapaskamprung Village, east of Surabaya, on 1 September 1927. Widodo received his general education at a ''Hollandsch-Inlandsche School'' from 1934 to 1941, then continued to a Technical School from 1942 to 1946. During his high school education, he participated in the Indonesian War for Independence in East Java, as part of a Student's Brigade. Widodo then entered the police force, and studied at the School of Police Science until he graduated in 1955. After that, he served as the Head of the Police Organization Division in Purwakarta for three years, from 1956 to 1959 and participated in Operations against the Darul Islam rebellion in West Java. The Chief of the Indonesian National Police, commonly known as the National Police Chief, is the official who heads the Indonesian National Police (Polri). Since it was first formed, this position has experienced several changes in hierarchy and position names. Kalibata Heroes Cemetery
The National Main Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata ( id, Taman Makam Pahlawan Nasional Utama, Kalibata, colloquially known as Kalibata Heroes Cemetery ( id, Taman Makam Pahlawan Kalibata, or ''TMP Kalibata'') is a military cemetery in Kalibata, South Jakarta, Indonesia. It was built in 1953 and opened on 10 November 1954. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was the first Indonesian President to be buried on the cemetery following his death on 11 September 2019. Former Indonesian foreign minister Agus Salim, who died 6 days before the cemetery was opened, was the first senior politician buried in the cemetery. There were also 121 bodies moved from Heroes Cemetery in Ancol. More than 7,000 military casualties and veterans from Indonesian War of Independence are buried there. ''Dwifungsi'' was used to justify the ABRI—especially the Indonesian Army—permanently increasing its influence in the Indonesian government, including reserved military-only seats in the parliament, and top positions in the nation's public service. As the weaknesses of political system became apparent, officers increasingly felt they had a responsibility to involve themselves in politics to "save the nation". 1971 Indonesian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Indonesia on 3 July 1971, the first under the New Order regime. There were ten participants; nine political parties and the "functional group" Golkar, which came first with more than 60 percent of the vote, resulting in an absolute majority in the People's Representative Council. Background In March 1966, President Sukarno signed a document giving Army commander Suharto authority to restore order.
