Wide (cricket)
In cricket, a wide is a type of illegal delivery to a batter (the other type being a no-ball) that is judged by the umpire to be too wide or (in international cricket) too high to be hit by the batsman by means of a normal cricket shot. It is also a type of extra, being the run awarded to the batting team as a consequence of such an illegal delivery. Definition Wide balls are covered by Law 22 of the Laws of Cricket. A delivery is a wide if it is not sufficiently within reach for the batter to be able to hit it with the bat by means of a normal cricket stroke from where the batter is standing, and also would not have been sufficiently within reach for the batter to be able to hit it with the bat by means of a normal cricket stroke if the batter were standing in a normal guard position. The WIDE Project (Widely Integrated Distributed Environment) is an Internet project in Japan founded by Keio University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and The University of Tokyo that was started in 1985. It runs a major Internet backbone, backbone of the Japanese internet and used to run the .jp Top Level Domain (TLD). WIDE aims to integrate academia and industry in a single group that overcomes lines between organizations as an autonomous force utilizing new technologies for a better society. This mission has guided the actions of the project for two decades, and will continue to be a cornerstone of its activities. The president is Jun Murai, a professor of Keio University SFC. Edvin Wide
Emil Edvin Wide (22 February 1896 – 19 June 1996) was a Swedish middle-distance and long-distance runner. Biography Born in Finland as Emil Edvin Hermansson, Wide moved to Sweden in 1918. He competed for Sweden at the 1920 Summer Olympics in the 3000 metre team event, winning a bronze medal, together with Eric Backman and Sven Lundgren. At the 1924 Olympics he won a silver medal in the 10,000 m behind Ville Ritola of Finland. He also finished third in the 5,000 m, behind Ville Ritola and Paavo Nurmi. At the 1928 Summer Olympics the 5,000 metre medals went to the same people as in 1924, only the Finns swapped medals, leaving Edvin with his third Olympic bronze medal. He then finished behind the same two yet again for the third time in Olympic competition to win the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres. Samuel Wide
Samuel (Sam) Karl Anders Wide (17 October 186, – 13 February 1918) was a Swedish classical archaeologist, ancient historian and philologist. Biography Wide was born at Stora Tuna in Kopparberg County, Sweden. Wide became a student at Uppsala University in 1879. In 1888 he received his PhD in Greek language and literature from Uppsala University. In 1895 he became a professor of classical languages at the University of Lund, attaining a similar position at Uppsala in 1899. In 1909 he became the first professor of classical archaeology and ancient history at the University of Uppsala. Wide made many study and research trips to the countries of classical culture. In 1893–95, he travelled extensively throughout Italy and Greece. In the summer of 1894, with Lennart Kjellberg (1857 –1936) he performed excavatory work of the Sanctuary of Poseidon on the island of Kalaureia. Widen is a municipality in the district of Bremgarten in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History At the end of the 12th century a manor called "Wyda" is mentioned the first time, there's no exact year. "Widen", in the way like it's written today, appears the first time during the 14th century. In medieval times, the manor belonged to Habsburg. 1415 the Eidgenossen conquered the Aargau and Widen then belonged to the Grafschaft Baden. In March 1798 the French conquered Switzerland and proclamated the Helvetic Republic, in which Widen and Eggenwil formed one single municipality in the short-dated canton of Baden. After the foundation of the canton of Aargau 1803, Widen and Eggenwil were separated. Up to that time, there's not much known about Widen, because there are almost no documents left.
