Wichita Falls High School
Wichita Falls High School (WFHS) is a public school in Wichita Falls, Texas, United States. It is part of the Wichita Falls Independent School District (WFISD) and is one of the district's three high schools. Located at 2149 Avenue H and Coyote Blvd., the school serves students in grades nine through twelve. As the first high school in the city, Wichita Falls High School is locally known as "Old High." The school was founded in 1891 and the current building was built in 1922 and is a state historic landmark. The high school's mascot is the coyote. Wichita Falls Independent School District
Wichita Falls Independent School District (WFISD) is a public school district based in Wichita Falls, Texas, United States and is accredited by the Texas Education Agency. Wichita Falls ISD serves most of Wichita Falls (including portions of Sheppard Air Force Base). Varying parts of north Wichita Falls are included in the City View Independent School District and the Burkburnett Independent School District. The Wichita Falls ISD was one of the few Texas school districts to offer a choice program that gives parents the choice of what secondary school they would like their child to attend. Wichita Falls ISD ended the choice program for all schools beginning with the 2015-2016 year. Joe Golding
Joseph Griffith Golding (March 26, 1921December 26, 1971) was a professional American Football halfback/defensive back in the National Football League. He played for the Boston Yanks (1947–1948) and the New York Bulldogs/Yanks (1949–1951). His 1951 Bowman football card #115 relates the following: "In the service for 44 months. Won Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart. Commissioned on the battlefield while an infantry-man in Europe". Golding's brother, also named Joe Golding, was a longtime high school football coach who led Wichita Falls High to four state championships. Joseph Charles Golding (born October 15, 1975) is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently the head men's basketball coach at The University of Texas at El Paso, having previously served in the same capacity at Abilene Christian University, where he played point guard from 1994 to 1998. Early Years Golding grew up in Midland, Texas before relocating with his family as a teenager to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he graduated from Wichita Falls High School. John Allen "Johnny" Genung is a former American football player who is primarily known for playing quarterback for the Texas Longhorns from 1960 to 1962. Early life A native of Anadarko, OK, Genung moved to Wichita Falls, TX when he was five years old. Genung played tailback and quarterback on the Wichita Falls High School 1958 Texas state high school football championship team (Class AAAA). He was All-District, All-State and an All-American in football, and was voted one of the top backs in the annual Oil Bowl game after his senior year. He also played shortstop on the baseball team.
