Why Would I Lie
''Why Would I Lie?'' is a 1980 American comedy-drama film about a compulsive liar named Cletus (Treat Williams). The film, which was directed by Larry Peerce and shot in Spokane, Washington, is based on the novel ''The Fabricator'' by Hollis Hodges. Plot Cletus Hayworth, a compulsive liar, is employed as a social worker. He tries to find a home for a young boy named Jorge and, in so doing, falls in love with a social worker, who unbeknownst to everyone is Jorge's mother. Larry Peerce
Lawrence "Larry" Peerce (born April 19, 1930) is an American film and TV director whose work includes the theatrical feature ''Goodbye, Columbus'' (1969), the early rock and roll concert film '' The Big T.N.T. Show'' (1966), ''One Potato, Two Potato'' (1964), ''The Other Side of the Mountain'' (1975) and ''Two-Minute Warning'' (1976). Life and career The son of operatic tenor Jan Peerce and talent agent Alice (Kalmanowitz) Peerce, Larry was born in The Bronx, New York. He attended the University of North Carolina. He made his directing debut with ''One Potato, Two Potato'', released in 1964 by the distributor Cinema V. Margaret Myrtle "Mitzi" Hoag (September 25, 1932 – February 26, 2019) was an American actress. Over the course of her career, she appeared in more than 73 different TV shows and movies. Notable among these are recurring roles in '' We'll Get By'', ''Bonanza'', ''Here Come the Brides'', and ''The Partridge Family''. Early life and education Hoag was raised in North Olmsted, Ohio, near Cleveland, where she was born. Her father, John C. Hoag, was a supervisor for the A&P store chain.
