Why Five (occasionally stylized Y5) is a Spanish boy band formed in 2013 which sings in both English and Spanish. Career Formation (2013) In June 2013, during an episode of Spanish talk show ''El Hormiguero'', host Pablo Motos confirmed they were working with producer and musician Carlos Jean (also a frequent collaborator on the show) to create a Spanish boy band ("we want to make the Spanish One Direction, the Spanish Backstreet Boys", as stated by Motos, words that stirred some controversy amongst the fans of an already established Spanish boy band, Auryn). During the summer, Jean and part of the crew of ''El Hormiguero'' held castings in different points of Spain to scout for potential band members. By the time the next season of the show started in September, the castings were finished and the finalists appeared on ''El Hormiguero'' for live auditions. Carlos Jean Arriaga (born 15 February 1973) is a Spanish DJ and record producer born in the region of Galicia in Northwestern Spain. He is the co-founder of the group Najwajean, and has been a producer for some of the most important Spanish and Latin-American artists of the 2000s, earning seven Latin Grammy nominations. Boy Band
A boy band is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation. Generally, boy bands perform love songs marketed towards girls and young women. Many boy bands dance as well as sing, usually giving highly choreographed performances. South Korean boy bands usually also have designated rappers. Some such bands are formed on their own, often evolving out of church choral or gospel music groups. In contrast, others are created by talent managers or record producers who hold auditions. ''El Hormiguero'' (, Spanish for "The Anthill") is a Spanish television program with a live audience focusing on comedy, science, and guest interviews running since September 2006. It is hosted and produced by screenwriter Pablo Motos. The show aired on Spain's Cuatro channel from launch until June 2011 and is now broadcast on Antena 3. Recurring guests on the show include Luis Piedrahita, Raquel Martos, Marron & El Hombre de Negro ("The Man in Black") (the scientists), and puppet ants Trancas and Barrancas (from the Spanish expression "a trancas y barrancas," which means "in fits and starts"). Pablo Motos Burgos (born August 31, 1965) is a Spanish comedian and broadcaster who is best known for producing and presenting '' El Hormiguero'', a popular Spanish television show. Auryn (; stylized as AURYN) was a 5-member Spanish boy band founded in 2009. Signed to Warner Music, they sang in English and Spanish.
