''Whole Lotta Red'' is the second studio album by American rapper Playboi Carti. It was released on December 25, 2020, by Interscope Records as well as ASAP Rocky's AWGE label. Work on the album commenced in late 2018 and concluded in November 2020. The album consists of 24 tracks and features guest appearances from Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Future (rapper), Future. The album was executive produced by West, who also appears on the song "Go2DaMoon". Production was also handled by Carti's frequent collaborator and producer Pi'erre Bourne, along with Maaly Raw, Wheezy (record producer), Wheezy and Working on Dying, F1lthy, among others. ''Whole Lotta Red'' received mostly positive reviews from music critics. The song initially leaked online on April 18, 2019. An unofficial upload of the song, featuring just Playboi Carti's verse, topped the Spotify US Viral 50 chart in late May 2019, after a performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The album-equivalent unit, or album equivalent, is a measurement unit in music industry to define the consumption of music that equals the purchase of one album copy. This consumption includes streaming and song downloads in addition to traditional album sales. The album-equivalent unit was introduced in the mid- 2010s as an answer to the drop of album sales in the 21st century. Album sales more than halved from 1999 to 2009, declining from a $14.6 to $6.3 billion industry.
