Alice Whitley (6 February 1913 – 1990) was an Australian chemist and educator. Whitley focused on the science education of women and was a 50-year faculty member at her alma mater, the MLC School. She worked as a science teacher and headmistress. Whitley served as president of the Australian Science Teachers Association and the Association of Heads of Independent Girls' Schools. Early life and education Alice Whitley was born on 6 February 1913 to Alfred and May Whitley in Stanmore, New South Wales. James Whitley (born 14 April 1975) is a football coach and former professional footballer who is under-18s manager of Macclesfield. As a player he was a midfielder who notably played in the Premier League for Manchester City, and in the Football League for Blackpool, Norwich City, Swindon Town, Northampton Town and Wrexham. Robert Ray Whitley (November 22, 1943 – May 5, 2013) was an American beach music composer and singer-songwriter. He was best known for composing hit songs recorded by The Tams and Guy Darrell, and he also released 14 of his own singles between 1961 and 1970. Biography Whitely was born in Columbus, Georgia on November 22, 1943 to Robert S. and Willie Bell Whitley. Whitley was 14 when he formed his first band in his hometown. Producer Felton Jarvis soon discovered him in an Atlanta High School. Jarvis introduced Whitley to Atlanta music producer Bill Lowery, who saw Whitley's potential and signed him to a contract. Raymond Otis Whitley (December 5, 1901 – February 21, 1979) was a country and western singer and actor. Career Singing and live performance Whitley was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He began his singing career in New York City in 1930. He had traveled to New York where he became a construction worker on the Empire State Building and the George Washington Bridge. While working as a steelworker, he heard of an audition at a local radio station. He was hired as a pop singer and learned a few chords on a guitar to back himself. Soon he was backed by professional musicians, including the Frank Luther Trio. He formed "The Range Ramblers" and began to broadcast on WMCA. Norman Whitley
Sir Norman Henry Pownall Whitley, (29 June 1883 – 12 April 1957) was a British Army officer and supreme court judge. He was a silver medallist in lacrosse at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Biography Whitley was born in Chorlton, Manchester and educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He entered the Inner Temple to study law and was called to the bar in 1907. In the 1908 Summer Olympics hosted by Great Britain Whitley was a member of the British Lacrosse team which went on to win a silver medal, losing to Canada in the final. On the outbreak of the First World War, he was commissioned into the Manchester Regiment and after basic training was sent to Gallipoli, where he was awarded the Military Cross. During his career, Whitley released only two albums but charted 12 singles on the ''Billboard'' country charts, and 7 more after his death.
