Whitlam, Australian Capital Territory
Whitlam is a suburb in the Molonglo Valley, Australian Capital Territory. The suburb is named after former prime minister Gough Whitlam. Many Canberra suburbs are named after prime ministers or other politicians, but only at least a year post death. The ACT government waited a year before announcing a suburb named Whitlam. Whitlam is the northernmost suburb in the Molonglo Valley district, positioned to the north of Denman Prospect. The ACT government plans to release 500 residential dwelling lots in 2018–19, 600 in 2019–20 and another 500 in 2020–21. Whitlam is a cat containment area, meaning that pet cats are not permitted to roam freely outside householder's yards. Geography The Molonglo River forms the southern border of Whitlam. Canberra City
Civic is the city centre or central business district of Canberra. "Civic" is a common name for the district, but it is also called Civic Centre, City Centre, Canberra City and Canberra, and its official division name is ''City''. Canberra's City was established in 1927, although the division name City was not gazetted until 20 September 1928. Molonglo Valley
The District of Molonglo Valley is one of the nineteen districts of the Australian Capital Territory used in land administration, and the only district that was not created in 1966. The district is subdivided into divisions (suburbs), sections and blocks and is the newest district of Canberra, the capital city of Australia. The district is planned to consist of thirteen suburbs, planned to contain dwellings, with an expected population of between and . The Murrumbidgee electorate is one of the five electorates for the unicameral 25-member Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. It elected five members at the 2016 ACT election. Gough Whitlam
Edward Gough Whitlam (11 July 191621 October 2014) was the 21st prime minister of Australia, serving from 1972 to 1975. Denman Prospect is a suburb currently under development in the Molonglo Valley district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. It is named in honour of Lady Denman, the wife of the fifth Governor-General of Australia, The Lord Denman. The principal ceremonial occasion during Lady Denman's term as first lady was the inauguration of the Federal capital on 12 March 1913. Lady Denman stood upon the newly laid Foundation Stones and pronounced, "I name the capital of Australia – Canberra". Winslade Fault
Winslade is a hamlet and civil parish in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England. It lies south of Basingstoke, just off the A339 road. The hamlet covers an area of and has an average elevation of . Its nearest railway station is Basingstoke, north of the hamlet. The parish of Winslade contains the vast Hackwood Park, an Grade I listed Royal deer park. Tuff is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption. Following ejection and deposition, the ash is lithified into a solid rock. Mount Painter Volcanics
The geology of the Australian Capital Territory includes rocks dating from the Ordovician around 480 million years ago, whilst most rocks are from the Silurian. During the Ordovician period the region—along with most of eastern Australia—was part of the ocean floor. The area contains the ''Pittman Formation'' consisting largely of Quartz-rich sandstone, siltstone and shale; the Adaminaby Beds and the Acton Shale. Most of the younger rocks are pyroclastic deposits from explosive volcanic eruptions, but the ''Yarralumla Formation'' is a sedimentary mudstone/siltstone formation that was formed around 425 million years ago. In the 1840s fossils of brachiopods and trilobites from the Silurian period were discovered at Woolshed Creek near Duntroon by the Reverend William Branwhite Clarke.
