Tara, Ontario
Tara is an unincorporated community in the municipality of Arran–Elderslie, Bruce County, in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is a designated place and had 1,037 residents and 458 dwellings as of the 2011 census. Tara is in geographic Arran Township and is located on the Sauble River. It has an area of and an urban area that covers . Tara is in the federal electoral district of Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound and in the provincial electoral district of the same name. A railway point called "Tara Siding" is south of the community on the opposite bank of the Sauble River. It was created in 1855 by the building of the Stratford and Huron Railway, and abandoned 1993. The Vancouver Foundation is an organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia. It administers over 1,600 funds and assets totalling $930 million, on behalf of individuals, families, corporations and charities. History Vancouver Foundation was founded in 1943 by Alice MacKay. MacKay had saved $1,000 from her secretarial job and wanted to help homeless women trapped in a cycle of poverty. Whitford Julian VanDusen oversaw the establishment and incorporation of Vancouver Foundation. VanDusen added $10,000 to the endowment and encouraged nine friends to match his own gift. In 1950, the Foundation was incorporated by the Legislature of British Columbia in a Special Act. VanDusen Botanical Garden
VanDusen Botanical Garden is a botanical garden situated in Vancouver, British Columbia, in its Shaughnessy neighborhood. It is located at the northwest corner of 37th Avenue and Oak Street. It is named for local lumberman and philanthropist Whitford Julian VanDusen. History In 1970, the Vancouver Foundation, the British Columbia provincial government, and the city of Vancouver signed an agreement to provide the funding to develop a public garden on part of the old Shaughnessy Golf Course. The Botanical Garden opened to the public on August 30, 1975 and remains jointly managed by the Vancouver Park Board and the Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association (VBGA), similar to the operation of nearby Bloedel Conservatory. Opened in November 2011, the garden's Visitor Centre was designed and built to a LEED Platinum standard.
