Whitefield, Bangalore
Whitefield is a neighbourhood of Bangalore in the state of Karnataka, India. Established in the late 1800s as a settlement for the Eurasians and Anglo Indians of Bangalore, Whitefield remained a quaint little settlement at the eastern periphery of Bangalore city till the late 1990s when the local IT boom turned it into a major suburb. It is now a major part of Greater Bangalore. The locality is named after D. S. White, founder of the European and Anglo Indian Association which received 4,000 acres of land from Mysore Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar in the 19th century. Whitefield Township is a township in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 571 at the 2000 census. History Whitefield Township was organized in 1870, and named for Edwin Whitefield, an artist who visited the area with explorers in the 1850s. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2 square miles (93.8 km), of which 35.3 square miles (91.4 km) is land and 0.9 square mile (2.4 km) (2.59%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 571 people, 194 households, and 156 families residing in the township. The population density was 16.2 people per square mile (6.2/km). Stephen Whitefield Sykes (1 August 1939 – 24 September 2014) was a Church of England bishop and academic specialising in divinity. He was Van Mildert Professor of Divinity at Durham University from 1974 to 1985, and Regius Professor of Divinity at Cambridge University from 1985 to 1990. Patrick Whitefield (born Patrick R. Vickers, 11 February 1949 – 27 February 2015) was a British permaculture teacher, designer, author, and consulting editor for '' Permaculture Magazine''. George Whitefield
George Whitefield (; 30 September 1770), also known as George Whitfield, was an Anglican cleric and evangelist who was one of the founders of Methodism and the evangelical movement. Born in Gloucester, he matriculated at Pembroke College at the University of Oxford in 1732. There he joined the "Holy Club" and was introduced to the Wesley brothers, John and Charles, with whom he would work closely in his later ministry. Whitefield was ordained after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree. He immediately began preaching, but he did not settle as the minister of any parish. Rather he became an itinerant preacher and evangelist. In 1740, Whitefield traveled to North America, where he preached a series of revivals that became part of the " Great Awakening". His methods were controversial and he engaged in numerous debates and disputes with other clergymen. Edwin Whitefield (September 22, 1816 – December 26, 1892) was a landscape artist who is best known for his lithographed views of North American cities and for a number of illustrated books on colonial homes in New England. Born in East Lulworth, near Wareham, Dorset, England, he emigrated to the United States in 1838. Whitefield visited a series of North American cities, where he published books reproducing the paintings he made there. His collections were published by subscription. The cities he visited included Brooklyn (1845), Toronto (1851), Quebec City (1852), Montreal (1853-1854), Hamilton, Ontario (1854), Ithaca, New York (1855), Jamestown (1882), and Boston (1889). Whitefield railway station (station code: WFD) is an Indian Railways train station located in Whitefield, Bangalore, in the Indian state of Karnataka, which is about 8 km away from the Krishnarajapuram railway station and serves the Whitefield area.
