"White Ribbon Day" is the first single released by rock band Delirious?. It was released from their album '' King of Fools'' in 1997, reaching number 41 on the UK Singles Chart. Lead singer, Martin Smith wrote the song after being inspired by a news report from Northern Ireland that he had seen in early 1996. The report informed about casualties in the area. It mentioned a group of people who had adopted white ribbons as a symbol of hope. The report included the phrase "The people pray for white ribbon day". This line was included in the lyrics of the song. ''King of Fools'' is a studio album by British Christian rock band Delirious?, initially released in June 1997. The full-length project showcased a new mainstream sound, whilst retaining many of the core themes found in their Cutting Edge EPs. Stylistically, the album epitomises the band's similarity to U2, an influence which was highlighted by several critics on release. ''King of Fools'' reached No. 13 in the UK album chart, a career high for the band, and produced four singles. The second, "Deeper", peaked at No. 20 on the UK singles chart on 11 May 1997. Martin Smith (English Musician)
Martin James Smith (born 6 July 1970) is an English vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and producer. Smith was the front man of the Christian rock and worship band Delirious?. When Delirious? disbanded in 2009, Smith became a solo artist. Career Before becoming a full-time musician, Smith was a sound engineer at ICC studios in Eastbourne. Along with Stewart Smith (no relation) and Tim Jupp, Smith formed The Cutting Edge in 1992. In 1995, Smith and his wife were involved in a near-fatal car accident, and during the weeks of his recovery, he decided to become a professional musician. This inspired him to write the song "August 30". In 1996, the band, now known as Delirious?, became a full-time endeavour.
