White Bear (Carlyle) Lake
White Bear (Carlyle) Lake is a closed-basin lake in the Moose Mountain Upland. It is the largest lake on the plateau, slightly larger than its neighbour, Kenosee Lake. White Bear (Carlyle) Lake is within the White Bear 70 Indian reserve and Carlyle Lake Resort is along the southern shore. The lake and its amenities can be accessed from Highway 9. Originally the lake was named ''Carlyle Lake'' by the first European settlers to the area. In the late 1970s control of the lake was handed over to the White Bear First Nations and at that time the lake was renamed to White Bear (Carlyle) Lake. Water levels Beaver are not native to Moose Mountain and in 1923, two breeding pairs from Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan were brought to nearby Kenosee Lake. The beavers flourished and soon dams were blocking not just inflow creeks to Kenosee, but White Bear (Carlyle) Lake as well. White Bear Lake is a city in Ramsey County in the state of Minnesota, United States. A small portion of the city also extends into Washington County. The population was 23,769 at the 2010 census. White Bear Lake Area High School (abbreviated WBLAHS) is a high school in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, United States. The school was formed by merging White Bear High School (WBHS) and White Bear Mariner High School in the 1983–84 school year. It currently consists of two campuses and an alternative learning center. North Campus houses grades nine and ten, while South Campus serves grades eleven and twelve, and also contains a special education section separate from the high school. WBLAHS is the only school in the state of Minnesota with grades 9–10 and 11–12 in different buildings. White Bear Lake Township is a township in Pope County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 440 at the 2000 census. The township was named for White Bear, an Ojibwe chief, who is buried there near a lake shore. History The township was surveyed in 1866 and organized in 1869. The Wadsworth Trail from St. Cloud, Minnesota to Fort Wadsworth ran through the township. White Bear Lake Township contains the city of Starbuck, Minnesota.
