Whitchurch (Shropshire) railway station serves the town of Whitchurch in Shropshire, England. The station is 18¾ miles (30 km) north of Shrewsbury on the Welsh Marches Line. The station is maintained and served by Transport for Wales. History The station opened on 1 September 1858 by the LNWR-backed Crewe and Shrewsbury Railway. It was once the junction for the Cambrian Railways Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch Railway line to Oswestry and Welshpool (the former Cambrian mainline to ), and the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway. Whitchurch, Shropshire
Whitchurch is a market town in the north of Shropshire, England. It lies east of the Welsh border, 2 miles south of the Cheshire border, north of the county town of Shrewsbury, south of Chester, and east of Wrexham. Great Western Railway
The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest, west and West Midlands of England and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833, received its enabling Act of Parliament on 31 August 1835 and ran its first trains in 1838 with the initial route completed between London and Bristol in 1841. It was engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who chose a broad gauge of —later slightly widened to —but, from 1854, a series of amalgamations saw it also operate standard-gauge trains; the last broad-gauge services were operated in 1892. Wrenbury Railway Station
Wrenbury railway station serves the village of Wrenbury in Cheshire, England and is on the Welsh Marches Line south west of Crewe railway station, Crewe. It is an unstaffed, request-stop station with two platforms. History The station was opened along with the line in September 1858 by the Crewe and Shrewsbury Railway. Prior to resignalling of the line in 2013, the barrier level crossing at the south end was controlled from an ex-LNWR pattern signal box, which operated manual semaphore signals. The station also has a small single storey main building (now disused) on the same side of the line but north of the crossing. The signal box has since been removed and the crossing is now remotely supervised from the South Wales Rail Operating Centre in Cardiff. Prees Railway Station
Prees railway station serves the village of Prees in Shropshire, England, although the station is a mile to the west of the village and in the parish of Wem Rural. The station is from South Junction (approximately north of Shrewsbury) on the Welsh Marches Line. It was opened by the Crewe and Shrewsbury Railway in 1858. The station has two platforms and trains only stop here upon request. British Transport Commission
The British Transport Commission (BTC) was created by Clement Attlee's post-war Labour government as a part of its nationalisation programme, to oversee railways, canals and road freight transport in Great Britain (Northern Ireland had the separate Ulster Transport Authority).
