''When Knights Were Bold'' is a comedy play by the British writer Harriett Jay writing under the pseudonym of Charles Marlowe which was first performed in 1906.Nicoll p.330 A British officer Guy De Vere returns home from service in India after inheriting an estate and a baronetcy in the village of Little Twittering where he encounters a number of eccentrics. His cousin Rowena, meanwhile, falls madly in love with him. It should not be confused with the 1898 novel '' When Knighthood Was in Flower'' by Charles Major which is sometimes known by this title. Film adaptations The film has been adapted into films on four occasions. The first was a 1908 Biograph short with D. W. Griffith appearing in an acting role. Comedy Play
Comedy is a genre of dramatic performance having a light or humorous tone that depicts amusing incidents and in which the characters ultimately triumph over adversity. Jack Raymond
Jack Raymond (1886–1953) was an English actor and film director. Born in Wimborne, Dorset in 1886, he began acting before the First World War in '' A Detective for a Day''. In 1921 he directed his first film and gradually he wound down his acting to concentrate completely on directing - making more than forty films in total before his death in 1953. He was associated with the Hepworth Studios of Walton on Thames, since his portrait appears on a studio publicity postcard when he was probably in his early twenties. He had a major success in 1930 with ''The Great Game'', one of the earliest films devoted to football and followed it up with '' Up for the Cup'' a year later. He remade '' Up for the Cup'' in 1950. ''When Knights Were Bold'' is a 1936 British musical comedy film directed by Jack Raymond and starring Jack Buchanan, Fay Wray and Garry Marsh. Songs include "Let's Put the People To Work" sung by Jack Buchanan, "Onward We Go" sung by Buchanan & soldiers' chorus, and "I'm Still Dreaming" sung by Buchanan. Aquila Films
Aquila Films was a Turin-based Italian film production and distribution company of the silent era. It was formed in 1907. The company produced many crime and mystery films, promoting them in a sensationalist way. The company's production expanded rapidly - rising from five films in 1907 to seventy three by 1911. Aquila established strong links with foreign distributors in Britain and France, and enjoyed commercial success in foreign markets. In 1909 it took part in the Paris Film Congress, a failed attempt to create a cartel of leading European producers. It was badly hit by the outbreak of the First World War which closed many of its profitable export markets to it.
