Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre
The Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre is a tennis and multi-purpose sports facility located within the Olympic Park in Parramatta, near Sydney, Australia. The centre was built in 1999 and hosted the tennis events for the 2000 Summer Olympics. The venue hosted the Sydney International tournament from 2000 to 2019 and has hosted the ATP Cup since 2020. The main stadium in the centre is the Ken Rosewall Arena, which has a seating capacity of 10,500, and is capable of hosting multiple sports, including tennis and netball. Facilities In December 2008, the centre court was renamed Ken Rosewall Arena, named in honour of the Sydney-born tennis player and multiple Grand Slam winner Ken Rosewall. The stadium holds 10,500 people. There are also two other show courts in the precinct seating 4,000 and 2,000 spectators respectively, as well as ten other match courts and six practice courts. Daniela Di Toro
Daniela "Danni" Di Toro (born 16 October 1974) is an Australian wheelchair tennis and table tennis player. Di Toro was the 2010 French Open doubles champion and has also been the Masters double champion. In singles, Di Toro is the former world number one and two time masters finalist. In 2015, she moved to para-table tennis and represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, where she was team captain with Kurt Fearnley. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, her sixth Paralympics, she was the team captain and Opening Ceremony flag bearer with Ryley Batt. Personal life Daniela Di Toro was born on 16 October 1974 in Melbourne, Victoria. She became a paraplegic in 1988 in an accident while competing at a school swimming carnival, when a wall fell on her. Branka Pupovac
Branka Pupovac (born 3 February 1972) is a Paralympic wheelchair tennis competitor from Australia. Personal Pupovac was born on 3 March 1972 in Wollongong, New South Wales. She is from Sydney, New South Wales and attended the University of Wollongong where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce. In 2000, she was studying to become a counsellor. Pupovac is an incomplete paraplegic, as a result of an accident while riding on the back of a friend's motorcycle when she was twenty. Her friend crossed a set of double lines in an effort to overtake a car. She was wearing a helmet at the time, but still had significant damage done to her neck and spinal cord. Pupovac, alongside Karni Liddell, Hamish MacDonald and Charmaine Dalli, was one of eighteen Australian Paralympians photographed by Emma Hack for a nude calendar. Sharon Walraven
Sharon Walraven (born 19 June 1970, Schaesberg) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player. She became paraplegic at age 23 after complications following a fall while she was ice-skating. She has won seven Grand Slams doubles titles partnering compatriot Esther Vergeer. At the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing she won the gold medal in the women's doubles competition. At the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney she won a silver medal in the women's singles competition. Walraven has a highest ranking of No.2 in singles and No.1 in doubles. Walraven won the doubles title with Griffioen in St Louis 2010, however the pair lost in the final in Paris. With Graviller she took the Florida Open title. With Vergeer, Walraven achieved the Grand Slam in 2011, defeating Griffioen and van Koot in all four finals. Kai Schramayer
Kai Schramayer (born 10 January 1968) is a retired German wheelchair tennis player who competed at international level events. He was a former World no. 1 in the sport and is a double Paralympic medalist. Schramayer was a very sporty person: he played ice hockey, volleyball, basketball and soccer at a young age and pursued his interest in tennis aged six years old. He lost his left femur to bone cancer when he was fourteen years old after his mother noticed that her son complained about pain in his leg when going up stairs. After his leg got amputated, he went back to playing tennis with a prosthesis. David Robert Hall, OAM (born 14 January 1970) is an Australian former professional wheelchair tennis player. With eight US Open singles titles, two Masters singles titles, and a Paralympic gold medal in singles, he has been referred to as Australia's greatest ever wheelchair tennis player. Biography Born in Sydney, Australia, Hall was raised in the New South Wales coastal town of Budgewoi, attending Budgewoi Public School and Northlakes High School. On 11 October 1986, at the age of 16, Hall lost his legs after being hit by a car. After a long period of rehabilitation, Hall began working as a clerk at the local police station.
