Wheelchair Basketball At The 2020 Summer Paralympics – Men's Tournament
The 2020 Summer Paralympics men's tournament in Tokyo began on 25 August and was ended on the 5 September 2021. The matches were played at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza and the Ariake Arena. This was the fourteenth edition of the tournament since the tournament debut at the 1968 Summer Paralympics in Tel Aviv. Twelve teams were separated into two groups of six with the top four qualifying through to the knockout stage of the competition. From there it would be a knockout format which would lead to the gold medal match. Competition schedule Qualification Twelve teams qualified through the qualifying stage with the host nation in Japan women's national wheelchair basketball team, Japan. Ariake Arena
The Ariake Arena is a multi-sport venue located in Ariake, Tokyo, Ariake, Tokyo, Japan. It served as the Volleyball at the 2020 Summer Olympics, volleyball venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics and the Wheelchair basketball at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, wheelchair basketball knockout stage at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. This was the replacement of the Differ Ariake which was closed and demolished in June 2016. History The Ariake Arena was one of the six permanent facilities designed to be built in the district of Ariake in order to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Its construction began in January 2017 and was completed in December 2019. The total cost of the project was around 35 billion yen (about $320 million) and it has the capacity 12,000 spectators, which can be expanded to a max capacity of 15,000 with temporary seating. Asier García Pereiro (born 11 June 1981) is a Spanish wheelchair basketball player. He represented Spain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics as a member of Spain men's national team. Personal García was born on 11 June 1981 in Pais Vasco. In 2012, he lived in Madrid. Wheelchair basketball García is a 4 point player. National team García competed in wheelchair basketball at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. It was the first time the Spanish national team had qualified for the Paralympics in 16 years. Michael Auprince
Michael Auprince, (born 21 February 1993) is an Australian swimmer and wheelchair basketball player. He set several swimming records and was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London in swimming, where he won gold and bronze medals. He represented the Rollers team at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal Michael Christopher Auprince was born on 21 February 1993, and is from Peakhurst, New South Wales. When he was ten years old, his left leg was amputated by choice; the limb had no muscles as a consequence of a congenital birth defect. Brett Stibners
Brett Andrew Stibners, OAM (born 25 June 1979) is an Australian wheelchair basketball player who won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and the 2010 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship. He was a member of the Rollers team that competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, his fourth Games. Personal Stibners was born on 25 June 1979, and is from the Wollongong suburb of Oak Flats. Matt Scott (born March 27, 1985) is an American wheelchair basketball player. Biography Matt Scott was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he began playing wheelchair basketball with the Sterling Heights Challengers in the NWBA Junior Division. As a high schooler, he was on the gold medal-winning US team at the 2007 Parapan American Games in Brazil, where he was coached by Tracy Chynoweth, head coach of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's college wheelchair basketball team. Scott played five years for the UW-Whitewater Warhawks in the NWBA College Division, winning championships three out of five years in 2004, 2005, and 2007. Patrick Anderson (wheelchair Basketball)
Patrick Anderson (born 22 August 1979) is a Canadian wheelchair basketball player. Personal life Anderson was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and he grew up in Fergus, Ontario. At the age of nine he was hit by a drunk driver, and as a result lost both his legs below the knee. Because of this, he is classified as a 4.5-point player for competition. Özgür Gürbulak (born 30 April 1981) is a Turkish wheelchair basketball player and Paralympian. He is a 4 point player competing for Galatasaray Wheelchair Basketball, and is part of Turkey men's national wheelchair basketball team.
