History Wetumpka High School was founded in 1897 as the 5th District Agricultural School. It became known as Wetumpka High School in 1932. Wetumpka () is a city in and the county seat of Elmore County, Alabama, Elmore County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 7,220. In the early 21st century Elmore County became one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. The city is considered part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Area. Wetumpka identifies as "The City of Natural Beauty". Among the notable landmarks are the Wetumpka crater and the Jasmine Hill Gardens, with a full-sized replica of the Temple of Hera, Olympia, Temple of Hera of Olympia, Greece. Historic downtown Wetumpka developed on both sides of the Coosa River. It was near Fort Toulouse, built by French colonists in 1717, when they had claimed this territory for the king. Luke Sewell
James Luther "Luke" Sewell (January 5, 1901 – May 14, 1987) was an American professional baseball player, coach and manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher for the Cleveland Indians (1921–1932, 1939), Washington Senators (1933–1934), Chicago White Sox (1935–1938) and the St. Louis Browns (1942). Sewell batted and threw right-handed. He was regarded as one of the best defensive catchers of his era. Jamie Winborn
Jamie Winborn (born May 14, 1979, in Wetumpka, Alabama) is a former American football linebacker. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played college football at Vanderbilt. Winborn has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans.
