Weston-super-Mare Rugby Football Club is an England, English rugby union team based in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. The club runs five senior teams, including a colts and veterans side and the full range of junior teams The first XV play in South West Premier, a level five league in the English rugby union system, following their promotion from Tribute South West 1 West in 2017. The second XV (United) play in the Tribute Somerset Premier and the third XV (Athletic) play in Tribute Somerset 2 North. History The club was formed in 1875 and played their early games on what is now a supermarket car park before moving to their present ground at Drove Road in 1880. The Great Depression saw people from Wales arriving in the town, played rugby for Weston and became one of the top clubs in the country at that time. The Somerset County Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Somerset in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Somerset. The SCRFU administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the Somerset including the county rugby representative teams. History The first Somerset rugby team played against Devon at Taunton in the 1875–76 season and the Somerset County Rugby Football Union was founded at a meeting in Bridgwater in September 1882. Somerset 3 South
Somerset 3 South (known as Tribute Somerset 3 South for sponsorship reasons) is an English rugby union league which sits at the eleven level of league rugby union in England alongside its counterpart Somerset 3 North. When the division was founded in 1987 it was a single league known as Somerset 3, but since 2006 it has been split into two regional divisions. Somerset 3 South currently involves teams from the southern part of Somerset - although this means anywhere in the county outside Bristol. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th XV sides can participate in the division as long as they are not from the same club. The league champions, and occasionally runners up, are promoted to Somerset 2 South and there is no relegation as this is the lowest level of league rugby in Somerset. Jack Cuthbert (born 3 September 1987 in Bristol, England) is a Scottish rugby union player for Jersey Reds in the RFU Championship. He plays as a winger/fullback or outside centre, although most of his senior appearances have come in the number 15 jersey. He has also acted as a goal kicker on occasions. Cuthbert joined Edinburgh from Bath in the summer of 2013. Dan Tuohy (born 18 June 1985) is an English-born Ireland international rugby union player, currently playing for Vannes after leaving Stade Français. He plays as a lock. He also captained the Barbarians in their 2016 tour against the Czech Republic. Club career Tuohy started rugby on the wing for Weston-super-Mare Colts before becoming a second row forward. He made his first professional appearance for Gloucester against London Irish in the Guinness Premiership and received the man of the match award. Nigel Charles Redman (born 16 August 1964) is a former professional rugby union player who played as a lock (rugby union), lock for Bath Rugby, Bath and the England national rugby union team, England national team. Born in Cardiff, Redman left school at the age of 15 to become an apprentice electrician. He began his rugby career aged 15 playing for Weston-super-Mare RFC. Gerald Francis Redmond (born 23 March 1943) is an English former rugby union international. Redmond was born and raised in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. He attended Weston Grammar School, where he played rugby under the guidance of ex-Wales international Willie Davies and developed into a specialist number eight. George Henry Bennett (8 July 1913 – 31 August 1970) was a Welsh rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
