The Westlink M7 or M7 Motorway, formerly Western Sydney Orbital, is a tolled urban motorway in Sydney and is a part of the Sydney Orbital Network. Owned by the NorthWestern Roads (NWR) Group, it connects three motorways: M5 South-West Motorway at Prestons, M4 Western Motorway at Eastern Creek and M2 Hills Motorway at Baulkham Hills. It opened on 16 December 2005, eight months ahead of schedule. The M7 cycleway runs parallel to Westlink M7. History Western Sydney is the fastest growing part of the Sydney metropolitan area. M2 Hills Motorway
The Hills Motorway (also known as the Hills M2 Motorway, M2 Motorway or simply M2) is a tollway in north-western Sydney, Australia, owned by toll road operator Transurban. It forms majority of Sydney's M2 route and part of the 110 km Sydney Orbital Network, with Lane Cove Tunnel constituting the rest of the M2 route. The M2 is also part of the National Highway west of Pennant Hills Road. It was known as the North West Transport Link during planning in the early 1990s. The Roads & Traffic Authority (RTA) was an agency of the New South Wales Government responsible for major road infrastructure, licensing of drivers, and registration of motor vehicles. The RTA directly managed state roads and provided funding to local councils for regional and local roads. Sir Roden Cutler VC Memorial Interchange
The Sir Roden Cutler VC Memorial Interchange, often shortened to Roden Cutler Interchange and sign-posted as Cutler VC Interchange, is a three-level motorway interchange located in Prestons in South-West Sydney. The interchange forms the junction of the Westlink M7, M5 South-West and M31 Hume Motorways, opening to traffic in December 2005 along with the Westlink M7. It is a major urban feature of the National Highway network with roads linking Sydney south to Canberra and Melbourne and north to Newcastle and Brisbane converging at the interchange. As with many features of the Remembrance Driveway between Sydney and Canberra, the interchange is named in honour of an Australian Victoria Cross recipient. Light Horse Interchange
The Light Horse Interchange is a motorway interchange located in Eastern Creek, Sydney, Australia at the junction of the M4 and M7 motorways. The interchange is the largest in the southern hemisphere and was opened to traffic in December 2005. The interchange was named in honour of the Australian Light Horse Brigades of World War I, who trained at the Wallgrove Army camp that was located near the site of the interchange prior to deploying overseas. Design and construction In response to a population boom in Sydney's western suburbs, the Government of New South Wales' Sydney Orbital Roads Strategy identified the need for a limited access north-south link. M12 Motorway (Sydney)
The M12 Motorway, initially known as Western Sydney Airport Motorway, is an under-construction east-west motorway in Sydney, Australia, linking between the M7 Motorway and The Northern Road, as part of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan. The four-lane motorway is planned to be 14 km long and to be built at a cost of $1.75 billion (with both State and Federal funding). It is aimed at providing direct access from the M7 Westlink Motorway to the new Western Sydney Airport situated at Badgerys Creek. The motorway began construction in August 2022 and is expected to open prior to the Western Sydney Airport opening in 2026. Metroad
Metroads were the primary road routes serving the Sydney and Brisbane metropolitan areas from the 1990s to the early 2010s. The Metroads formed a network of radial and circumferential routes throughout the cities, simplifying navigation. Metroads have been progressively phased out in both Sydney and Brisbane, replaced by alphanumeric route numbers. Brisbane is the only city currently retaining the Metroad system. History Historically, National Routes passed through city centres and formed some of the main thoroughfares within Australia's largest cities. However urban growth led to massive congestion in the inner city areas. Cumberland Highway
The Cumberland Highway is a long urban highway located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The highway links the Pacific Highway (A1/B83) and Pacific Motorway ( M1) at Pearces Corner, Wahroonga in the northeast with the Hume Highway (A22/A28) at Liverpool in the southwest. The entire length of Cumberland Highway is designated route A28. The name of the highway is derived from the Cumberland Plain and Cumberland County. Beecroft is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 22 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government areas of Hornsby Shire and City of Parramatta.
