Westleigh, New South Wales
Westleigh is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 22 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Hornsby Shire. History Westleigh derived its name from its location, directly west of Thornleigh. Development as a residential suburb began in 1967 and was marketed by Stewart Upton a large real estate firm following the subdivision of the area bounded by Duneba and Eucalyptus Drive, and the former riding school which was situated near Billarga Road. Prior to this time the area was rural with many citrus orchards, with a small number of homes on acreage along Quarter Sessions Rd, extending north towards the former sandstone quarry near "Blackfellow's Head", which was used as a dumping ground for stolen cars of the 1940s and 1950s. Hornsby Railway Station
Hornsby railway station is located at the junction of the Main Northern and North Shore lines, serving the Sydney suburb of Hornsby. It is served by Sydney Trains T1 North Shore Line and T9 Northern Line services and NSW TrainLink Intercity and regional services. History The station opened on 17 September 1886 as Hornsby, but was renamed Hornsby Junction on 1 November 1894. This was due to the construction of Normanhurst station to the south, which was initially named Hornsby as it was located in what was the more densely populated area of Hornsby at the time. Naming the station Hornsby Junction was an attempt to avoid confusion, but it was realised that having two Hornsby stations was still very confusing. Transdev NSW is a bus operator in the northern, southern and western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, operating on behalf of Transport for NSW. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Australasia. It is a different subsidiary to Transdev John Holland, which is 75% owned by Transdev and operates in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. With origins tracing back to February 1935, Transdev NSW was renamed from Veolia Transport NSW in July 2013 after the global rebranding of its parent company Veolia Transdev to simply Transdev. During this time, Transdev Shorelink, another Transdev bus operation in Sydney, was absorbed into Transdev NSW. Thornleigh Railway Station
Thornleigh railway station is located on the Main Northern line, serving the Sydney suburb of Thornleigh. It is served by Sydney Trains T9 Northern Line services. History Thornleigh station opened on 17 September 1886. Platform 1 is located on a loop and does not have any booked passenger workings, while south of the station, the line has a loop on each side as far as Pennant Hills. To the north of the station, a line previously branched off to a quarry. The local control panel was closed on 12 November 2006, with control transferred to Strathfield Signal Box. Control of Thornleigh was again transferred to the new Homebush Signal Box in October 2008. Train services running through to the city through the Epping-Chatswood Rail Link via Macquarie University and Chatswood ceased on 30 September 2018. Great North Walk
The Great North Walk is a walking track which runs from Sydney to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. The main track, in length, runs between the Obelisk in Macquarie Place in Sydney to Queens Wharf in Bicentennial Park in Newcastle and is well sign-posted. There are many "side tracks" which link the track to populated areas along the length of the walk. The walk includes a huge variety of wildlife and scenery. A section at the northern, Newcastle end, is also known as the Yuelarbah Track. This section runs from the Teralba railway station to the Queens Wharf on Newcastle Harbour. At Kahibah Station, the Great North Walk uses a short section of The Fernleigh Track and passes along the northern side of Glenrock Lagoon to get to the coast. Philip Maxwell Ruddock (born 12 March 1943 in Canberra) is an Australian politician and the current mayor of Hornsby Shire. Ruddock is a member of the Liberal Party of Australia and currently the state president of the party's New South Wales division.
