Westgate Water Tower
The Westgate Water Tower, also known as the Lincoln Water Tower is a historic water tower, dating to AD 1911. It is located on Westgate, in Lincoln, England. It is a grade II listed building. History It was designed by Reginald Blomfield in the Baroque Revival architecture, Baroque revival style. The tower is square in plan and measures in height. It was commissioned by the Lincoln Corporation in response to an outbreak of Typhoid fever, typhoid in the city in Lincoln, England#20th century, 1904-1905 which killed 113 people and drew water from the reservoir at Bracebridge Heath rather than from the polluted supplies at Hartsholme Lake and the River Witham. The tank inside the tower measures in diameter and can hold 1.356 million litres of water. It is still in use and is operated by Anglian Water. References

A water tower is an elevated structure supporting a water tank constructed at a height sufficient to pressurize a water distribution system, distribution system for potable water, and to provide emergency storage for fire protection. Water towers often operate in conjunction with underground or surface service reservoirs, which store treated water close to where it will be used. Other types of water towers may only store raw (non-potable) water for fire protection or industrial purposes, and may not necessarily be connected to a public water supply. Water towers are able to supply water even during power outages, because they rely on hydrostatic pressure produced by elevation of water (due to gravity) to push the water into domestic and industrial water distribution systems; however, they cannot supply the water for a long time without power, because a pump is typically required to refill the tower.
