Westfriedhof (Munich)
The Westfriedhof (West Cemetery) in Munich is situated in the south of the city district of Moosach. The main entrance is at Baldurstraße 28. The cemetery was laid out in 1898; the buildings, by the architect Hans Grässel, were completed in 1902. The Westfriedhof contains over 40,000 grave plots. The monuments in the principal avenue, many of them by the Munich sculptor Heinrich Waderé, are especially imposing. Bernile Nienau
Rosa Bernile Nienau (20 April 1926 – 5 October 1943), called Bernile, was a German girl who became known as "the Führer's child" because of her close friendship with Adolf Hitler that lasted from 1933 to 1938. Life Nienau was born on 20 April 1926, the daughter of Bernhard Nienau, a physician (1887–1926), and Karoline, a nurse (1892–1962). Her father died shortly before she was born. Nienau, her mother Karoline, and her maternal grandmother Ida (née Morgenstern) Voit (1867-1942) moved to Munich around 1928. Voit, a widow or divorcee, was a Roman Catholic teacher of Jewish descent. Bernile was one-quarter Jewish, which made her unacceptable under the Nazi regime and subject to persecution. Edmund Nick
Edmund Nick (, Reichenberg – , Geretsried) was a German composer, conductor, and music writer. Biography The son of a merchant, Nick studied law from 1910 to 1915 in Vienna and Graz. At the same time, he studied music at the Vienna Music Academy and at the Conservatorium Dresden. He received his doctorate in law (''Dr. jur.'') from the University Graz in 1918. Nick moved to Breslau in 1919, working as concert accompanist, piano teacher and critic. He became Kapellmeister of the theatre in Breslau in 1921 and Head of the Music Department of Radio Silesia in 1924. It was here that he first met Erich Kästner; Nick wrote the music to a radio play by Kästner which became very successful. This was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. When he was dismissed in 1933, he moved to Berlin, where he was Head of Music at the ''Theater des Volkes'' from 1936 to 1940. Rudolf Maison
Rudolf Maison (July 29, 1854 – February 12, 1904) was a German sculptor born in Regensburg, Germany, where he began his studies. He continued studying in Munich. His work can be found all over Germany and is in the Romantic tradition. Maison "often exaggerated to the most impossible degree the baroque frenzy of composition, disregard for the laws of equilibrium, and pictorial proclivities, but he broke sharply with his contemporaries habit of depending, for their forms, on the baroque of the past, and studied his own forms directly from actuality." His style contained a "much more pronounced naturalism" than was to be found in the works of his German contemporaries and he thus, particularly in his smaller works was able to address themes that had "heretofore been deemed suitable only for painting" and "ruthlessly violated the tradition of pomposity and aloofness" current in German sculpture. Franz Von Lenbach
Franz Seraph Lenbach, after 1882, Ritter von Lenbach (13 December 1836 – 6 May 1904), was a German painter known primarily for his portraits of prominent personalities from the nobility, the arts, and industry. Because of his standing in society, he was often referred to as the "Malerfürst" (Painter Prince). Biography His father, who originally came from South Tyrol where the family name was spelled "Lempach", was a Master Mason for Schrobenhausen, where Lenbach was born. Lenbach completed his primary education at Landsberg in 1848, then attended a business school in Landshut. From 1851 to 1852, he was apprenticed to the sculptor Anselm Sickinger in Munich. Robert Lembke
Robert Lembke (''Robert Emil Weichselbaum'') (born 17 September 1913 in Munich; died 14 January 1989) was a German television presenter and game show host. Life Lembke started to study law at the age of 18, but dropped out of college. He then worked as a newspaper journalist (Berliner Tageblatt and Simplicissimus). He refused to sign a loyalty oath to Adolf Hitler and was subsequently barred from working as a journalist in Nazi Germany. He then took a job at IG Farben. His Jewish father had fled to England in 1936. In 1935, Lembke married Mathilde Bertholt and three years later they had a daughter. After World War II Lembke worked as a journalist. Together with Hans Habe, Erich Kästner and Stefan Heym Lembke started German newspaper Die Neue Zeitung in Munich.Since 1949 Lembke worked for German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk. Markus Koch (born February 13, 1963) is a German-born former American football defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins team which won a Super Bowl (1988). He played high school football at the Eastwood Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, Ontario and played college football at Boise State University. Koch served as Vice President of the Seattle chapter of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). Michael Hinz
Michael Hinz (28 December 1939 – 6 November 2008) was a German actor. Life and career Hinz came from an acting family, his parents were Werner Hinz and Ehmi Bessel, both actors, as well as his brother Knut and half-sister Dinah. After growing up in Berlin and Hamburg, Hinz had his first theatrical role in 1958 in Terence Rattigan's '' The Sleeping Prince'' at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Monte Civetta
Monte Civetta (3,220 m) is a prominent and major mountain of the Dolomites, in the Province of Belluno in northern Italy. Its north-west face can be viewed from the Taibon Agordino valley, and is classed as one of the symbols of the Dolomites.
