Western Victoria Region
Western Victoria Region is one of the eight electoral regions of Victoria, Australia, which elects five members to the Victorian Legislative Council (also referred to as the upper house) by proportional representation. The region was created in 2006 following the 2005 reform of the Victorian Legislative Council. The region comprises the Legislative Assembly districts of Bellarine, Eureka, Geelong, Lara, Lowan, Melton, Polwarth, Ripon, South Barwon, South-West Coast and Wendouree. David O'Brien (politician)
David Roland Joseph O'Brien (born 2 September 1970) is an Australian politician who represented the National Party in the Victorian Legislative Council. Early life and education O'Brien was born in Melbourne and educated at Sacred Heart Primary School, and then overseas at Marion Donaldson Elementary School (in Tucson, Arizona), Rygaards International School (in Copenhagen, Denmark) and Hendrik Louw School (in Strand, South Africa). He returned to Melbourne where he attended Xavier College, then studied law and economics at Monash University. 2010 Victorian State Election
The 2010 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 27 November 2010, was for the 57th Parliament of Victoria. The election was to elect all 88 members of the Legislative Assembly and all 40 members of the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, led by John Brumby, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal/National Coalition opposition, led by Ted Baillieu. The election gave the Coalition a one-seat majority in both houses of parliament. Voting is compulsory in Victoria. Elections for the Legislative Assembly use instant-runoff voting (called preferential voting in Australia) in single-member electorates (called districts). David Frank Koch (born 24 October 1949) is an Australian politician. Born in Coleraine, Victoria, he was a farmer from 1973 to 2001, when he became a real estate agent. He held numerous local positions and was a Shire of Wannon, Wannon Shire Councillor from 1987–1994, serving as President in 1991. John Vogels
John Adrian Vogels (born 14 June 1946, in the Netherlands) has been the Chairman of Wannon Water, a regional Water Authority in Victoria Australia, since 2011. He was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Victorian Parliament from 1999 to 2010, serving in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. Vogels attended Noorat Public School 1956–61 and St Thomas' School in Terang 1961–64. In 1970, he became a dairy farmer. In 1996 he was elected to Corangamite Shire Council, becoming Mayor in 1998. In 1997, he joined the Liberal Party. In 1999, Vogels was preselected as the Liberal candidate for Warrnambool, a National Party seat. Peter Damian Kavanagh (born 1959) is a former Australian politician, teacher, barrister and legal academic, who served as a member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing the Democratic Labor Party (DLP). Jaala Pulford
Jaala Pulford (born 14 February 1974) is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council between 2006 and 2022, representing the Western Victoria Region. Pulford was Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Regional Development and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council between 4 December 2014 and 30 November 2018 following the election of the Andrews Labor Government. 2006 Victorian State Election
The 2006 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 25 November 2006, was for the 56th Parliament of Victoria. Just over 3 million Victorians registered to vote elected 88 members to the Legislative Assembly and, for the first time, 40 members to the Legislative Council under a proportional representation system (Single transferable voting). The election was conducted by the independent Victorian Electoral Commission. The Labor Party government of Premier Steve Bracks, first elected in 1999, won a third consecutive term with 55 of the 88 lower house seats, down seven from the 62 Labor won in 2002. Electoral District Of Wendouree
The electoral district of Wendouree is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2013, and came into effect at the 2014 state election. It largely covers the area of the abolished district of Ballarat West, covering north, southwest and west suburbs of Ballarat, including Wendouree, Alfredton, Delacombe, Redan, Ballarat North, Invermay, Black Hill and Brown Hill, as well as much of the CBD. The south suburb of Sebastopol was moved to the adjoining district of Buninyong. The abolished seat of Ballarat West was held by Labor MP Sharon Knight. While the redistribution made Wendouree notionally Liberal-held, Knight won the new seat with a swing to Labor. Electoral District Of South-West Coast
The electoral district of South-West Coast is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created prior to the 2002 election in order to replace the abolished seats of Portland and Warrnambool. The seat is dominated by the town of Warrnambool, but also includes Portland, Port Fairy, Koroit, Heywood and Macarthur. South-West Coast is located in ancestrally Liberal territory, and was thus a natural choice for Portland's former member, Denis Napthine, to transfer for the 2002 election. He barely held onto his seat in the Labor landslide of that year, seeing his margin reduced to only 0.7 percent. However, it has reverted to its previous form as a safe Liberal seat.
