The Western Suburbs Soccer Club was an Australian association football club based in Sydney. The club was a foundation member of Australia's National Soccer League in 1977, and had previously played in the NSW Premier League (then NSW Division 1) and the NSW State League Division One (then NSW Division 2). Western Suburbs amalgamated with APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC at the end of 1978 NSL season. The National Premier Leagues NSW is a semi-professional soccer competition in New South Wales, Australia. The competition is conducted by Football NSW, the organising body in New South Wales (the other being the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW organised by Northern NSW Football). The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues (NPL), which sits below the national A-League. Prior to becoming a subdivision of the NPL in 2013, the league was previously known as the NSW Premier League. APIA Leichhardt Football Club, also known simply as APIA (Associazione Poli-sportiva Italo Australiana), is a semi-professional soccer club based in the suburb of Leichhardt, New South Wales, Leichhardt in Sydney, Australia. Peter Frederick Wilson (born 15 September 1947) is an Australian former soccer player. He was the captain of the Australian squad at the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. His nickname is ''Big Willie'' and his position was sweeper. Biography Often regarded as one of the toughest defenders in the modern era, Wilson was a dominating figure in the Australian team in the 1970s. Born in Felling, England in 1947, Wilson migrated to Australia in 1969 to join South Coast United after failing to break into the first team for English club Middlesbrough. He started his career as full back but injury to another player switched him to sweeper where he had his biggest success. Between 1970–79, he made a then-record 116 appearances for the national team, and captained Australia from 1971, including the 1974 FIFA World Cup finals. Brian Francis O'Donnell (8 August 1957 – 5 November 2020) was a Scottish professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder in England and Australia, before becoming a manager and coach. Early life O'Donnell was one of five children born to Maurice and Elizabeth O'Donnell. Born in Port Glasgow, he spent the majority of his youth in the town of Yeovil, Somerset. The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association.
