Western Illinois Leathernecks Men's Basketball
The Western Illinois Leathernecks men's basketball team represents Western Illinois University of Macomb, Illinois, in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college basketball competition. The school's team currently competes in The Summit League. Western Illinois' first men's basketball team was fielded in 1910–1911. The Leathernecks men's basketball program made the transition from Division II to Division I beginning in the 1981–82 season. They were selected to play in the College Basketball Invitational tournament following the 2011–12 regular season, the first Division I postseason appearance in school history. Western Illinois University
Western Illinois University (WIU) is a public university in Macomb, Illinois. It was founded in 1899 as Western Illinois State Normal School. As the normal school grew, it became Western Illinois State Teachers College. History Western Illinois University was founded in 1899. The land for the university was donated to the state of Illinois by Macomb's Freemasons (Illinois Lodge #17). Macomb was in direct competition with Quincy, Illinois, and other candidates as the site for a "western" university. The Illinois legislature selected Macomb as the location. University administrators uncovered evidence of the Freemasons' efforts on Macomb's behalf when they opened Sherman Hall's (the administration building) cornerstone during their centennial celebrations. Bob Barnwell
Robert Wade Barnwell (January 1, 1916 – September 19, 1985) was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois for one season, in 1944 season, compiling a record of 0–8. Barnwell was also the head basketball coach at Western Illinois from 1943 to 1946, tallying a mark of 24–22. The 2022 The Basketball Classic (TBC) was a single-elimination men's college basketball postseason tournament featuring National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams not selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The 2012–13 Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team represented Purdue University in the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season . The head coach was Matt Painter, in his eighth season with the Boilers. The team played its home games in Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana and was a member of the Big Ten Conference. The 2013 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I teams that did not participate in the 2013 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, NCAA Tournament or the 2013 National Invitation Tournament, NIT.
