Western Carolina League
The original Western Carolina League was a Class-D circuit in Minor League Baseball which was ideated and created by John Henry Moss. The league ran from 1948 to 1952, then combined with the North Carolina State League to form the Tar Heel League in 1953. The second Western Carolina League was formed as a Class-A circuit in 1960. After three years, its name was changed to Western Carolinas League. The Granite Falls Graniteers were a Western Carolina League baseball team based in Granite Falls, North Carolina Granite Falls is a town in Caldwell County, North Carolina, United States. Newton is a city in Catawba County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 12,968. It is the county seat of Catawba County. Morganton Aggies
The Morganton Aggies were a minor league baseball team based in Morganton, North Carolina from 1948 to 1952. Morganton teams played exclusively as members of the Western Carolina League, winning the 1951 league pennant. The Aggies played home minor league games at Morganton High School Park. During their existence from 1948 to 1954, they had an overall record of 361–333. Their most successful season was in 1953, when they won the Tar Heel League regular season, and saw their star pitcher Kelly Jack Swift go 30–7 with a 2.54 ERA, winning the pitching Triple Crown. Lincolnton is a city in Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States, within the Charlotte metropolitan area. The population was 10,486 at the 2010 census. Blue Ridge League
The Blue Ridge League was the name of two minor league baseball organizations that operated in the first half of the twentieth century in the United States. History The first league operated for the better part of sixteen years, from 1915 through 1918, and 1920 to 1930. It was a Class D level league in the old classification system that ran from Class D up to Class Double-A, and had teams from Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The league was founded by Charles W. Boyer in 1915, as part of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues. Boyer, former president of the original South Atlantic League, served as the league president in the Blue Ridge League's inaugural season. The Hickory Rebels were a Class D minor league baseball team based in Hickory, North Carolina, that played from 1939–1940, 1940, 1945–1954, 1960.
