The Western Australian Athletics Stadium is a sports stadium in Perth, Western Australia. It is the main facility for the sport of athletics in Perth. It was constructed to replace the ageing Perry Lakes Stadium nearby, which had been in use since the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. The stadium houses the head offices of Athletics Western Australia and is a major facility for athletes with the Western Australian Institute of Sport. The stadium is also used for soccer, with Subiaco AFC playing home games at the stadium from 2014. Opening The opening ceremony was conducted on 26 May 2009, by the Premier of Western Australia, Colin Barnett, and included ceremonial activities to acknowledge the Aboriginal landowners as well as an inaugural 100m sprint event. Facilities The stadium incorporates features which honour some of Western Australia's past sporting heroes. Floreat, Western Australia
Floreat is a residential suburb west-northwest of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is bordered on Underwood Avenue, Selby Street, Cromarty Road and Durston Road. It is the head of the Town of Cambridge, which has its municipal offices and library in the suburb. The name of the suburb stems from the Latin word for "flourish" or "prosper", which is also the motto of the City of Perth, of which Floreat was a part when it was first built. Demographics Floreat had a population of 7,230 at the 2011 census, an increase of 205 from the 2006 census, and 277 from the 2001 census.
