Westerhoven
Westerhoven is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Bergeijk, about 15 km southwest of Eindhoven. History Westerhoven lies in a valley between the rivers Keersop and Beekloop which flow just outside the centre of the village. The hill connecting the neighbor village Riethoven dates from Roman times. Frankish ceramics have been found there. Westerhoven used to be part of the ‘heerlijkheid’ Bergeyk but became independent in 1810. Westerhoven was a separate municipality until 1997, when it became part of Bergeijk by municipality reclassification. A Second World War cemetery containing 220 British soldiers was created near Westerhoven in October 1944. It is now maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Valkenswaard War Cemetery
Valkenswaard war cemetery is a Second World War military war grave cemetery, located in the village of Valkenswaard, south of Eindhoven in The Netherlands. It contains British soldiers killed during the Allied push into the Netherlands during the autumn and winter of 1944. 216 identified British service personnel are interred in the cemetery and a further four are unidentified. History The Commonwealth soldiers interred in the cemetery fell in battles in Valkenswaard and the surrounding region (such as at Best, Netherlands, Best, Eersel and Bergeijk). The soldiers were killed between 14 September 1944 and 29 November 1944 with the exception on one soldier who died on 21 January 1945. The majority of the soldiers come from the Irish Guards and Devonshire Regiment. A temporary field burial site at Valkenswaard was set up at the beginning of October 1944 by No. 55 Graves Registration Unit. East Brabantian
East Brabantian ( nl, Oost Noord-Brabants or Oost Brabants) is one of the main divisions of the Brabantian dialect group recognized by the ''Woordenboek van de Brabantse dialecten''. East Brabantian dialects are mainly spoken in the eastern part of the province of North Brabant. Classifications of Brabantian recognize it as a separate dialect group. Sometimes it is called Meierijs, after the Bailiwick of Den Bosch. Commonwealth War Graves Commission
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is an intergovernmental organisation of six independent member states whose principal function is to mark, record and maintain the graves and places of commemoration of Commonwealth of Nations military service members who died in the two World Wars. The commission is also responsible for commemorating Commonwealth civilians who died as a result of enemy action during the Second World War. The commission was founded by Sir Fabian Ware and constituted through Royal Charter in 1917 as the Imperial War Graves Commission. The change to the present name took place in 1960.
