Westbourne Studios
Westbourne Studios is a Westbourne Park, West London office development of approximately 100 work spaces, aimed at young creative businesses in the Notting Hill area. Completed in January 2002, the studios were built on the site of the old Great Western Railway Broad Gauge sidings by Westbourne Park tube station. Dickon Robinson of the Peabody Trust described the studio's courtyard as "the most interesting internal space in London in the last decade". The building is a triangular, curvilinear structure in a deep shade of purple. In section, the profile is U-shaped with the Westway motorway crossing the building's centre, doubling as roof to the central social area. It was designed by Graham Clark architect for clients Nick and Simon Kirkham with John Tooke and Partners as structural engineers and Patrick Bellew of Atelier10 was the environmental engineer. Westbourne Park, London
Westbourne is an area west of Paddington in west London. It has a manorial history spanning many centuries, within a more broadly defined Paddington, before shedding its association in the mid-19th century. It is named after the west bourne, West Bourne, or River Westbourne, a Thames tributary which was encased in 19th-century London in the 1850s. The spring-fed stream and associated manor have led to the place names Westbourne Green, Westbourne Park and more narrowly: Westbourne Gardens, Westbourne Grove, Westbourne Park Road, Westbourne Park tube station, Westbourne Studios and the name of a public house. The Portobello Film Festival is an independent international film festival based in London, which annually premiers over 700 new films, including feature films, features, short films, shorts, documentaries, music films, and animation. Additionally, workshops and talks with top film directors (such as Stephen Frears and John Maybury) are also featured. Admission to the three-week-long festival is free of charge. Westway (London)
The Westway is a elevated dual carriageway section of the A40 trunk road in West London running from Paddington in the east to North Kensington in the west. It connects the London Inner Ring Road to the West London suburbs. The road was constructed between 1962 and 1970 to connect the proposed London Ringways motorway scheme to Paddington, and opened as the A40(M). It was the first urban motorway project in London and attracted criticism for the lack of care over the environment, the well-being of local residents and communities, and handling those whose homes would be demolished.
