West Of The Water Tower
''West of the Water Tower'' is a 1923 American silent comedy drama film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Rollin S. Sturgeon and is based on the novel of the same name by Homer Croy. Glenn Hunter and May McAvoy are the stars of this film. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Guy Plummer, the son of the small town's orthodox, narrow minded clergyman, becomes involved in a love affair with Bee Chew, the daughter of a wealthy atheist. They wed in secret through the aid of Cod Dugan, a poolroom operator. When Bee is about to become a mother, the two are unable to provide proof of the marriage. She goes away and later returns with the baby. Guy tells his father, who then admits that he, too, similarly sinned in his youth and decides to give up his pulpit. ZaSu Pitts
Zasu Pitts (; January 3, 1894 – June 7, 1963) was an American actress who starred in many silent dramas, including Erich von Stroheim's epic 1924 silent film ''Greed'', and comedies, transitioning successfully to mostly comedy films with the advent of sound films. She also appeared on numerous radio shows. Her career as an entertainer spanned nearly 50 years, and she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Her parents named her "ZaSu" as an amalgamation of the two maiden aunts she had been named for. Early life ZaSu Pitts was born in Parsons, Kansas, to Rulandus and Nelly (''née'' Shay) Pitts; she was the third of four children. Her father, who had lost a leg while serving in the 76th New York Infantry in the Civil War, had settled the family in Kansas by the time ZaSu was born. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Alice Mann
Alice Mann (October 10, 1899 – March 2, 1986) was an American silent film actress. Biography Mann began her film career in late 1915 with the Lubin Manufacturing Company, appearing in six shorts before the production company ceased operations the following year. She then moved to Vitagraph Studios, appearing in ten shorts in 1916 and 1917, many with veteran vaudeville actor Jimmy Aubrey and nine of which were directed by nascent film comedian/director Larry Semon. Roscoe Arbuckle then cast her in three of his early Comique shorts (produced by Joseph M. Schenck) made with Buster Keaton. Her best-known film appearances are with Arbuckle and Keaton in '' Coney Island,'' ''His Wedding Night,'' and '' Oh Doctor!'' when she was only 17 years of age.
