West Virginia Route 97 is an east–west state highway in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The western terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 52 (West Virginia), U.S. Route 52 and West Virginia Route 80 in Hanover, West Virginia, Hanover. The eastern terminus is at exit 42 of the West Virginia Turnpike (Interstate 64 (West Virginia), Interstate 64 and Interstate 77 (West Virginia), Interstate 77) in Mabscott, West Virginia, Mabscott. West Virginia Route 16, which runs Concurrency (road), concurrent with WV 97 between Sophia, West Virginia, Sophia and Mabscott, continues north into Beckley, West Virginia, Beckley on Robert C. Byrd Drive, the right-of-way of both WV 16 and WV 97. Twin Falls Resort State Park
Twin Falls State Resort Park is a state park in Wyoming County, West Virginia. The park was opened in 1968 and was completed by 1975. The two namesake waterfalls are accessed by a hiking trail and are located about 1/2-mile apart on the Marsh and Black Forks of Cabin Creek. The park is built on land donated by Pocahontas Land Corporation and Western Pocahontas Land Corporation as well as a few small privately owned plots. The entrance to Twin Falls State Park is about from the Castle Rock Trailhead of the Hatfield–McCoy ATV Trail. The park's nature center, located in Twin Falls Lodge, features local and natural history displays and offers naturalist-led programs year round. Buchanan County () is a United States county in far western Virginia, the only county in the state to border both West Virginia and Kentucky. The county is part of the Southwest Virginia region and lies in the rugged Appalachian Plateau portion of the Appalachian Mountains. Its county seat is Grundy. Buchanan County was established in 1858 from parts of Russell and Tazewell counties, and it was named in honor of then-President James Buchanan. Local pronunciation differs from that of the 15th president's surname; here the county is pronounced as "Búh-can-nin". In 1880, part of Buchanan County was taken to form Dickenson County. Welch, West Virginia
Welch is a city located in McDowell County in the State of West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,590 at the 2020 census, however the 2021 census estimate put the population at 1,914, due to the McDowell Prison complex in the northeast splitting from the city of Welch as part of unincorporated McDowell County. Incorporated as a city in 1893, it is the county seat of McDowell County. History Welch was incorporated in 1893 and named after Isaiah A. Welch, a former captain in the Confederate States Army who came to the region as a surveyor, and helped establish the plan for the beginning of a new town at the confluence of Tug Fork and Elkhorn Creek. Welch was made the county seat of McDowell County in an election by county citizens in 1892 even before Welch was incorporated as a city. Coalfields Expressway
U.S. Route 121 (US 121) is a proposed U.S. highway designated as the Coalfields Expressway, a four-lane highway stretching from Beckley, West Virginia, to Pound, Virginia, approximately in length. It is designed to connect Interstate 64 (I-64) and I-77 in West Virginia near Beckley to US 23 in Wise County, Virginia, at Pound. While US 121 will not connect directly to US 21, it will intersect at the latter road's original alignment, now a part of I-77.
