West Torrens Birkalla Soccer Club, commonly known as Birkalla, is an Australian semi-professional soccer club from Adelaide, South Australia. The club is based in Novar Gardens, a western suburb of Adelaide. The club competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia, the highest level of football in South Australia and second nationally. Founded in 1923, they are the oldest club in the league. History The West Torrens club was founded in 1923 and Birkalla Rovers was founded by J Taylor in 1933. In 1979 the two clubs merged to form West Torrens Birkalla (nicknamed Birks), the name they played under until the end of the 2001 season. In 2002 the club's name was changed to Adelaide Galaxy. At the beginning of the 2006 season, Galaxy reverted to its original team colours, yellow and black. They were one of the original sides in the FFSA Super League. Joe Anthony Gauci (born 4 July 2000) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for club Aston Villa and the Australia national team. Gauci's career began when he received a scholarship deal with Central Coast Mariners and subsequently joined Adelaide City and Melbourne City before signing a scholarship contract with Adelaide United in 2020. James Troisi ( ; born 3 July 1988) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Western United. Tobin is the fifth-most capped player for the Australia national football team with 87 'A' appearances, including 30 as captain. Zenon Caravella (born 17 March 1983 in Cairns, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who last played for Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Club career After the demise of the A League in Caravella played for Sydney Olympic in the NSW Premier League becoming one of their best players.
