West Roxbury Education Complex
West Roxbury Educational Complex (formerly West Roxbury High School) was a high school complex within Boston Public Schools located in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. (1976 – 2019) History The School was located on a 14 acre site near the 19th Century site of Brook Farm, and in the watershed of the upper Charles River. The school was designed by architects Antonio DeCastro and Samuel Glaser. It was built by The Jackson Construction Company of Dedham. The school location was built adjacent to a large wetland, Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, the former VFW Parkway Drive In and the former Gardner Street Landfill. The landfill was later capped and became Millennium Park. An island within the wetland is accessible by a boardwalk from the shore behind the school where the Boston Schoolyard Initiative built an Outdoor Classroom and science education site in collaboration with the Urban Science Academy. Millennium Park (Boston)
Millennium Park is a 100 acre urban park in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. History The park began as the Gardner Street Landfill for the city of Boston. Construction began in 1994 to reclaim the area as a park using land excavated in the Big Dig, and it was officially opened on December 7, 2000 by then Mayor Tom Menino. Activities and Amenities The park is well connected to neighboring parks and trails. It is adjacent to the Brook Farm Historical site and the Upper Charles River Reservation, and is close to the VFW Parkway. It contains conservation land, 25 acres of sports fields, children's play areas, and a canoe launch on the Charles River. Patrice O'Neal
Patrice Lumumba Malcolm O'Neal (December 7, 1969 – November 29, 2011) was an American comedian and actor. Ron Stone (American Football)
Ron Christopher Stone (born July 20, 1971) is an American former professional football player who was an offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders. He played college football for the Boston College Eagles. Early years Stone attended West Roxbury High School and did not play football until his junior year. Manuel Delcarmen (born February 16, 1982) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Boston Schoolyard Initiative (BSI) is a public private partnership that works to transform the conditions of public schoolyards of Boston Public Schools. BSI, in collaboration with private funders, the City of Boston and Boston Public Schools, uses a community participatory design process to change neglected and unwelcome schoolyards into centers for active school and community use.
