West Independent School District
West Independent School District is a school district based in West, Texas United States. In addition to West, the district serves the towns of Leroy and Ross in northern McLennan County. A small portion of Hill County lies within the district. History In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. On April 17, 2013, an explosion at the West Fertilizer Plant leveled several blocks of West and caused fires to spread across several blocks, including West Middle School. West is a city in McLennan County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 2,531. It is named after Thomas West, the first postmaster of the city. West Fertilizer Plant Explosion
On April 17, 2013, an ammonium nitrate explosion occurred at the West Fertilizer Company storage and distribution facility in West, Texas, United States ( north of Waco), while emergency services personnel were responding to a fire at the facility. Fifteen people were killed, more than 160 were injured, and more than 150 buildings were damaged or destroyed. Investigators confirmed that ammonium nitrate was the material that exploded. On May 11, 2016, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stated that the fire had been deliberately set. That finding has been disputed. West High School is a public high school located in West, Texas (USA) and classified as a 3A school by the UIL. It is part of the West Independent School District located in northern McLennan County. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.
