West Gosforth
West Gosforth was an electoral ward in the north of Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England. It was created in 2004 and abolished in 2018. The population of the ward is 9,681, increasing to 9,991 at the 2011 Census, 3.7% of the total population of Newcastle upon Tyne. Car ownership in the area is 78.1%, higher than the city average of 54.7%. Other wards in Gosforth include Gosforth, Dene and South Gosforth, Fawdon and West Gosforth, and Parklands (which includes northern Gosforth including Melton Park and Brunton Park). John Grundy (television Presenter)
John Grundy (born 1946) is a television presenter and author. His work mainly features North East England. Biography Grundy was born in 1946 in Carlisle, Cumberland. He taught in north-east schools from 1970. He became a lecturer in English Literature at South Tyneside College. He was strongly influenced by reading Nikolaus Pevsner's Buildings of England series of architectural guides. In the late 1980s he worked for the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, before beginning a more public career as a writer and television presenter on architecture, especially that of Northern England. He does live commentaries aboard the Shields Ferry, which cruises up and down the River Tyne from South Shields to Newcastle during the Summer. He is also chairman of the Friends of Beamish. Newcastle City Council is the local government authority for the city and metropolitan borough of Newcastle upon Tyne. Netto () is a Danish discount supermarket operating in Denmark, Germany, Poland, and previously in Sweden and the United Kingdom both as a stand-alone venture, until its sale in May 2010 to Asda, and via a joint venture with Sainsbury's between June 2014 and July 2016. Netto is owned by Salling Group. Netto also operated a smaller express version of the store in Denmark, known as "Døgn Netto" (" 4 hourDay Netto"). Døgn stores offered the same service as regular Netto stores with fewer products, but longer opening hours and higher prices. FreshXpress was a discount supermarket chain in the United Kingdom. It was originally formed in 2007, from the rump of the defunct Kwik Save chain, by Irish retail entrepreneur Brendan Murtagh. It existed in its original form between July 2007 and March 2008, culminating in it going into administration, and was then resurrected in a smaller form, however, during 2009, the resurrected company also went into administration, and has since ceased to exist. Kwik Save is a British convenience store chain. Prior to 2007, it was also a discount supermarket chain that had shops across the United Kingdom. It went into administration in July 2007, but was brought back in April 2012. Its shops were small to medium-sized high street supermarkets, mainly located in areas with below average incomes. It struggled to make profits during the 2000s, as superstore operators such as Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's introduced their own budget brands, and foreign competitors such as Lidl, Aldi and Netto (who all arrived in the United Kingdom during the first half of the 1990s) expanded. The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange, and was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. Co-op Food is a brand used for the food retail business of The Co-operative Group in the United Kingdom. Regent Centre is a large business park in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The business park is home to a variety of companies, including banking group Virgin Money whose Head Office is located on the site. The centre has its own transport interchange with a station on the Tyne & Wear Metro and integrated bus station.
