West Australian Women's Football League
The West Australian Women's Football League (WAWFL) was the governing body of women's Australian rules football in the state of Western Australia from 1987 until its dissolution in 2021. It organised the premier women's football league in Western Australia from 1987 to 2018, which was superseded in 2019 by the WAFLW league, a joint initiative of the WAWFL and the West Australian Football Commission. History The WAWFL football league was formed in 1987. The first season of competition was played in 1988 between four clubs, with a team from Mount Lawley winning the inaugural premiership. A second division was added from 2007 and the two divisions were later renamed "League" and "Reserves", the format most commonly used in Australian football leagues. Kiara Bowers
Kiara Bowers (born 16 November 1991) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Fremantle Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Career In July 2016, Bowers was announced as Fremantle's second marquee signing ahead of the inaugural AFL Women's season. However, in August 2016, 5 months before the start of the season, Bowers ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament whilst playing for the Coastal Titans in the West Australian Women's Football League. She would not play for Fremantle at all in the first two seasons of the AFLW. She made her debut in the four point win against at Casey Fields in the opening round of the 2019 season. She had an outstanding debut season, finishing second behind Erin Phillips in the league's player voted Most valuable player award, sixth in the AFL Women's best and fairest award, winning Fremantle's best and fairest award and being named in the 2019 AFL Women's All-Australian team. Sabreena Duffy
Sabreena McKinnon (born Sabreena Duffy 26 March 2000) is an Australian rules footballer who played for Fremantle and Melbourne in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She was known as Sabreena Duffy during her playing career, but legally changed her family name to her foster parents name in December 2022. McKinnon was drafted by Fremantle with their second selection and seventeenth overall in the 2018 AFL Women's draft. She made her debut in the four point win against Melbourne at Casey Fields in the opening round of the 2019 season. After kicking two goals in her second game, McKinnon was rewarded with a nomination in the AFL Women's Rising Star award. In 2020 McKinnon played in every game of Fremantle's undefeated season, kicking a team record 12 goals and was named in the 40-person AFL Women's All-Australian team squad. Ashleigh Brazill
Ashleigh Brazill (born 29 December 1989 in Campbelltown, New South Wales) is an Australian netball and AFL Women's player, playing both sports concurrently for Collingwood Football Club. She has played for the West Coast Fever and New South Wales Swifts previously in her netball career. Netball career Domestic Brazill made her domestic league debut for the New South Wales Swifts in 2010. She made the move to the West Coast Fever in 2012 and made an immediate impact, winning the club's MVP for the season. Brazill suffered with injuries over the next two seasons which restricted her time on court. Early life and education Bolton was born in Subiaco, an inner western suburb of Perth, where she was raised and has lived most of her life.
