The Wessex Group is an association of eleven sixth form colleges. History The partnership was formed in 1997, under the name the Hampshire Sixth Form Colleges' Partnership. The name was changed to reflect the membership of Southampton and Portsmouth colleges, which are not in the Hampshire County Council area. A sixth form college is an educational institution, where students aged 16 to 19 typically study for advanced school-level qualifications, such as A Levels, Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, or school-level qualifications such as General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations. Hampshire County Council
Hampshire County Council (HCC) is an English council that governs eleven of the thirteen districts geographically located within the ceremonial county of Hampshire. Alton College
HSDC Alton, formerly known as Alton College, is located in Alton, Hampshire, England. In addition to offering A Levels, the College provides an adult education service to the local population. It was built in 1978 and was one of the first institutions in the UK to be a purpose-built sixth form college. Barton Peveril College
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College was, in 2011, the seventh largest sixth form college in the UK, located in Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK with approximately 4,000 students. It is part of the Wessex Group of Sixth Form Colleges. History Originally Barton Peveril School was a temporary school, founded in 1904 by the local County Education Authority, to meet the demands of the new railway town of Eastleigh. It had two long-serving head teachers, with Miss Annie Smith at the reins from the start until her retirement in 1936 and then Mr Harry Newnham Reed Moore (1897--1991), who again only left to retire in 1963. He was succeeded by Mr R. E. Bowyer. The Sixth Form College Farnborough is a sixth form college situated in Farnborough, Hampshire, England. It caters for around 3,915 students and admission is mostly from schools in the local areas of Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. The college is often referred to as 'Farnborough Sixth' to differentiate it from Farnborough College of Technology. Havant ( ) is a town in the south-east corner of Hampshire, England between Portsmouth and Chichester. Itchen Sixth Form College (also known as Itchen College) is a mixed sixth form college in Bitterne, Southampton, Hampshire, England. It was established in 1906 and was originally a mixed secondary school, it later became Itchen Grammar School under the reforms of the Butler Education Act. It became its present state following further reform in the 1980s. History Woolston site Itchen Pupil Teacher's Centre Itchen College opened on 6 October 1906 as a Pupil Teacher's Centre in Raymond Lodge, Bridge Road, Woolston. It later moved to the first floor of Porchester Road Elementary School (which later became Woolston Secondary School for Boys), Woolston, in 1916. Peter Symonds College is a sixth form college in Winchester, Hampshire, in the south of England. Founded as a boys' grammar school, it is one of the few specialist sixth form colleges which is also a boarding school. It serves Falkland Islands residents for sixth form. It is the biggest sixth form college in the UK. Curriculum Most students at Peter Symonds take three A levels, with some taking other vocational courses. Queen Mary's College (QMC) is a sixth form college in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. The college's name is from the former grammar school Queen Mary's School in the northern part of Basingstoke. The college is located in the former school buildings of the Shrubbery All Girls secondary modern, which date back to the early 1950s. St Vincent College
St Vincent College is a co-educational sixth form (16-18) college located in Gosport, Hampshire, England. The majority of students come from the surrounding towns including Gosport, Fareham, Stubbington and Winchester.
