Wendling, Oregon
Wendling is an unincorporated community in Lane County, Oregon, United States, located northeast of Marcola. Wendling's post office operated from 1899 to 1952. It was named for George X. Wendling, a local lumberman. Wendling was created as a company town for the Booth-Kelly Lumber Company. History A rail line from Coburg, passing through Springfield and Natron, was later extended over Willamette Pass. A branch from Springfield to Wendling was constructed in 1902. Fires In August 1910, Wendling burned down. It also later burned down again on September 29, 1946. Wendling Bridge, a covered bridge, carries Wendling Road over Mill Creek at Wendling. Built in 1938, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Coburg, Oregon
Coburg is a city (and a National Historic District) in Lane County, Oregon, United States, north of Eugene. The city's population as of the 2020 census was 1,306. Founded in 1847, Coburg has retained the characteristics of traditional small town with walkable and close ties to the surrounding farming communities that stretch in all directions. Maintaining these characteristics is the central part of the city's community vision process completed in 2017. Heritage Documentation Programs (HDP) is a division of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) responsible for administering the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS). Hayden Bridge (Springfield, Oregon)
The Hayden RR Bridge, is a truss bridge located in Springfield, Oregon, spanning over the McKenzie River (Oregon), McKenzie River. The bridge initially served as a traditional railroad bridge, starting as part of the first transcontinental railroad in Utah, before being shipped to its current location to serve as part of the Marcola line, whose primary use was the distribution of lumber. It later closed down due to the closure of the area's lumbermills, until it was converted into a pedestrian bridge in 2019. It is one of the few remaining wrought-iron, Phoenixville bridges still standing, and the oldest intact bridge in the state of Oregon. Lane County History Museum
Lane County History Museum, located on the county fairgrounds in Lane County in Eugene, Oregon, United States, has ongoing exhibits on the Oregon Trail, the county courthouse, historic vehicles, selections of artifacts from across the county, and photographs.
